I have however played GS 1-3 so I assume some of that translates to normal TM
Overall, they're boring. Each playthrough has you sit through every week of a 3 year time span and there is very little actual content within that time. If you know what stat you want to raise then from what I remember at least you'll be finished by the start of year 2 and then you're doing actually fucking nothing for the rest of the playthrough. This problem is even worse if you're trying for one of the secret characters since they only exist in isolated events, you can't go on dates with them, pretty sure they don't show up for christmas or anything.
However, the secret characters themselves are great. The conditions for even seeing some of them to know they exist are complete bullshit, especially in GS3, where the conditions are shit like clicking on the correct faceless NPC in the first classroom background CG twice or checking an ingame homepage in a specific month of the second year and then go to town repeatedly. It's fun that they're there though, and they're largely much more interesting than the default characters who were frankly kind of boring overall.
GS4's default characters seemed a little better from the bit I read with my ebic N5 skills but I could barely even get through a couple months of the game with my pace so fuck that. There was someone that claimed they were in the proofreading stage of a translation in March but no idea what's going on there.
I'm also not sure why Konami made a GS4 but continued to do nothing with basic TM. Is it just more popular or something
