>>714497539 (OP)Gaming kinda started going downwards 2004 onwards or so, that's when EA and other publishers started heavily closing studios, and also when sequels started sucking (e.g. Deus ex 2 being terrible etc etc), generally speaking x360 and ps3 started regression of gaming library because publishers saw it was better to develop games for consoles (lowest common denominator, simpler game mechanics so the game is playable on game controller) and less for PC. Basically regression started whenever x360 came (perfect dark zero sucked, rare would no longer make good games), and last good PC games were from 2007 or something (Crysis 1, Swat 4 etc). After 2007 it was completely over (crysis 2 and 3 would be console games, there would be no more swat games, no more tribes games, no more freespace, no more freelancer... every game IP that wasn't playable on consoles was dead, thanks to publishers). So if someone asks me, peak gaming was 93-03 or something, because xbox/ps2/gc/dreamcast era of console games was the last era where consoles still had GREAT games (didn't matter what game you bought, the signal to noise ratio was high, meaning many games were good even if you bought game based solely on box art cover alone).
