I don't really know but I think so. People call me competitive sweatfag when I criticize World, but I could memorize easy to execute shortcuts in 8dx and most of shortcuts in World require much more precision and harder to do.

It's way easier. There is almost no need to drift whereas in 8DX it was all about drifting

Just got the game. The last one of these I played was Wii. Drifting feels so bad and out of my control, I can't hug corners like I used to. Was drifting analogue previously and now it's a binary on/off thing? I don't know why I'm doing so bad at this. Also motion controls suck now the gyros are way too sensitive

But it gave me way more precision on MK Wii. It was way better than tapping the d-pad or using the nunchuk's analog stick. I always assumed the pros had to be using tilt controls

in terms of depth based on the driving itself yeah the wall riding, rail grinding, etc are really good.
everything else is traditional mario kart experience except you get punished alot harder being in first with the only way to maintain it to be smuggling a mushrooms or powerups you got from the back

personally I thought the original reason was that water speed is actually water/air speed. it'd make sense why rosalina is water speed and cloud 9/flying carpet are also water speed. but I guess no one has confirmed it through tests so its probably not true

It has the exact same racing dynamics as MKWii, MK7 and MK8. It's 2½ laps of victory and ½ a lap of getting hit by a single BlueShell that can't be avoided, and watching 5 other racers enter the goal.

Mario Kart DS was still good because it was usually a private race between front-runners good at snaking, and trading places for who gets the Blue Shell. But it was even better before, where you could outsmart Red Shells and outright destroy BlueShells before getting hit.
