The old translation patch of this game attempted to translate the game faithfully but the patch was released before being properly finished so there's a couple inside jokes in there that were intended to check if the proofreaders were paying attention. The same game got another translation patch a decade later and a more modern approach was taken; the "translator" put the script through google translate to get the gist of what was being said and made up lengthy, obnoxious-sounding dialogue in its place. The script is twice as long in the new version. He also outright replaced a lot of minor NPCs and inserted his own fanfiction, without even the slightest basis in the original script. Naturally the former is widely mocked and the latter is praised as the greatest thing ever.

I played Thracia 776 right after FE8 came out. I used a shitty menu translation patch and a script off of GameFAQs to try and follow the story. It's still one of my favorite gaming memories. It beat the shit out of the modern millennial writing in the current "best" patch. If no 9ne is actually playing Thracia today it's probably because of that shitty fan translation written by cringelords.

Forced indoors dismounting ala FE3 is the perfect solution. Giving worse mov and stats to dismounted units compared to pure infantry means that infantry will actually compete for deployement slots in several maps since they sometimes have the advantage, plus you can have varied hybrid maps that have both outdoors and indoors areas on them for creative map designs options. I'd argue wyvern riders have always been a strong unit type, they just have unparalleled accessibility in new games with reclassing, whereas in older titles you usually only got one or two near mid or end game, who are usually army mainstays, or atleast useful enough to deploy. i don't particularly like reclassing, it takes away from that unit's personality imo

I've never understood that decision. It weighs almost twice her con and there's not even any armored units in that chapter, or the next one I don't think. Usually I just give her a slim lance and throw it in the convoy, where it sits until the end of the game.

I whipped my Caeda, glad to finally uncap her SPD. Man, this map took a lot less trial and error than I thought it would. I dunno why, but I had it in my head like there were going to be dozens of waves of wyvern/dragon reinforcements, but it really wasn't that bad at all. Got some juicy exp and levels out of it, which is always nice. I dunno if both the wiki and fewod are wrong about this map, but no reinforcements spawned when crossing the white line.

You could have switched her to cavalier (or archer) a while back so you could continue to gain speed before promotion. You're still capped at 20, but when you finally promote you jump to 25 speed or whatever. Cavalier also has better str/def growths than pegasus.

Training them doesn't hurt, just know that they don't necessarily need to do any fighting in the final chapter. A common strategy is to reclass to bishops and simply talk then use the rescue staff, then finish the chapter on turn 2.
That said, Merric is a solid team member and training him is useful for the final chapter as he provides support for Marth and can use higher level staves like recover.

for some more context, I decided to try out Jake this run because I noticed I don't ever really get any use out of Parthia past the midgame since most base bow units suck and you get *almost* everything you need from a C rank sniper
chapter 20 in particular which I just completed is a highlight for a strong A rank bow unit because they can one round almost everything on the map with 28 speed + starsphere which can allow you to ignore the entire top room of enemies with some good positioning
if we just count anyone who can turn into a sniper, then there are obviously better options, but they all require statboosters, at least 2 arms scrolls, and likely a couple extra if you're using Caeda or Palla, although they probably already need them to stay relevant in the endgame anyway.

That makes sense. I don't pay much attention to starting bow rank because, like you say, base C rank is pretty good. If I'm using a reclassed unit she'll double wyverns and whatnot in the midgame and will gain bow rank before long. Caeda's strength is a bit low but she can use parthia if she needs extra power.
It's probably even better to have a male bow user so you can have a 30 speed horseman, but they all seem lacking in some way. Maybe Jake really is worthwhile for that purpose.

A levin swordmaster is another great option that can one-round almost everything with the starsphere or a forge.
First I killed the heroes blocking the path while staying out of range of the northern enemies, then I killed the enemies that approached and sent everyone into the treasure room. Blocked the entrance with a dracoknight, picked off a couple enemies near Hardin across the wall, and only opened the lower door when the enemies that start in the lower right made their way above the treasure room.
