Just my personal opinion, I think 3 and 4 are very soulless. Going from how essential the BGM was in the first two to what 3 and 4 had felt like a let down to me, the story in 3 drags on and on and it seems like half the game is spend being told the same store about the flame champion over and over, and when you finally get your true runes, you lose them all until the final battle. The plot twists aren't very interesting or compelling and the war battles were junk.
4 was ruined by voice actors more than anything else and the battles were made too easy with the 4 person combat teams and the war battles were too easy as well, there isn't even any guessing involved like there was with 1, you know exactly what you need to beat the enemy before each battle starts. They put all this effort into doom and gloom story telling and the main character doesn't even die at the end like he should.
5 had some redeeming qualities, it felt like more of a return to form. The voice acting was slightly better than 4, the one thing I dislike most are the amount of missable characters
