As a hunterchad in burning crusade wow let me spin around in midair and fire abilities behind me and then spin back. It also let me skip the trap laying animation where you bend down by using traps at the apex of jumps. As far as tab target hotbar MMOs can be mechanically good, WoW definitely was compared to the rest.

"Mechanics" are not what made wow good. The mechanics were passable for its release. Obviously its outdated by todays standards.

When reduced to the most core elements, most games will sound dull and dumb.
But, positioning is a key element in Raids and Mythic Dungeon, and most bosses have mechanics of themselves that forces the Raid to split duties to attend either adds, or other shit happening through the fight.
I can't stand current Blizz writting, but, they are kind of forced to at least try something with each raid, since they are in a arms competition against addons that trivialize their combats since some people can't be bothered to read the guides that are included in the very same game.
