It got a video game though. I'm actually an expert in video game literature by the way. name a book and there's like a 60% chance I know about a game based on it.

and no I wasn't talking about officially licensed animorph games, I know about slightly altered ripoff versions

There is an Animorphs 3D platforming game on PS1 that looks and plays pretty decent.

We're the kids on the cover always the same? Didn't this series run for years they would have grown up
I only read the books sometimes.

I typed it out but then I realized how stupid it sounds when summarizing it and I deleted it out of embarrassment

buddy, sometimes it was chicks on the covers and other times it was dudes.

this is next level illiteracy. you can't even properly judge books by their covers. it's been forever but I still remember the hawk girl one without even trying. some things you never forget.

The whole series takes place over maybe a year or two, and then the final book has a timeskip of like 5 or so years

Yeah that's what I mean, whatever kid they used for the original Jake or Tobias pic in the first books would have aged out of being able to have their picture used by the time the middle of final books came around.
I mean they could have just taken a bunch of pictures beforehand but I don't have much faith in how forward thinking publishers are

its okay anon im autistic enough to not care and ill do it

some teenagers find a crashed alien ship and a scifi magic box in it; th emagic box gives them the ability to absorb the DNA of animals they touch and then turn into those animals.

they learn the ship is from a race of aliens who are enemies of a different race of body-snatcher type aliens that already exist on earth in secret, so they use the magic box animal shifting powers to fight the not-body-snatchers. one of the good aliens named axe or axle or something like that (its short for a real long alien name) shows u pand joins them

one of thei rnumber named tobias gets stuck as a hawk (if you stay as an animal for more than 2 hours then you're stuck there permanently)

later on there is also some mysterious god-like entity whose name i forget that occasionally helsp them out; lik ehe gives tobias shifting powers back, but his 'natural' form is a hawk now so he can only be a human for 2 hours before getting stuck again

whole series ends on a REALLY shitty cliffhanger where some protagonist characters die

I'd play a game set in the High Republic era. The one in development hell from Quantic Dream doesn't count.

It did have a 2D browser video game on the official Animorphs website where you walked around a maze as one of the characters and could turn into animals. It wasn't a good game. Animorphs is a dead property that won't come back. It's hopelessly stuck in the 90s with Xena references that wouldn't appeal to Zoomers, and the author would be branded as too woke to keep a new audience if she wrote the same work today.

alien body-snatching brain worms secretly invade earth, five teenagers get the ability to turn into animals to fight back in the shadows.
lots and lots of war crimes and exploration of the horrors of war ensue.

Aliens called the yeerks, weird brain-jacking slugs, are coming to conquer earth. A group of kids happen upon a crashed space ship and gain the power of animorphs, which allows you to transform into an exact copy of any organism you touch, but you can only remain in that form for an hour and if you go over then you permanently lose your ability to transform. Transforming has the added benefit of healing you and storing most of your clothes whenever you transform, but transforming destroys shoes because the creators of it are a species that has their mouths on their feet. The kids then basically become child soldiers fighting against a vastly more powerful enemy while trying to lead double lives, with the books being diary entries and them hiding their last names until the final book that way they can't be traced back to their families.
There's a lot of body horror, from becoming part of a hive mind when they became termites, to a species of alien that has such a strong sense of hunger that it drives them insane.

David Edding's work is pretty middle of the road fantasy, but I find it comforting, even if the Elenium and it's sequel series and the Belgariad and its sequel series are so similar that I often confuse which events happened in which book.

Summarize Animorphs: what they said

Summarize Second Apocalypse: Aliens also show up
But these aliens are all deranged sex pervert demonic monsters who have, through science, ascertained that God and Hell are real, and moreover, their entire race is irrevocably damned to eternal hellfire upon Death.
They've come to this planet to enact slaughter of innocents on such a grand scale that they can slip their souls through to the afterlife and finally die, dodging damnnation by killing so much that they're able to basically buffer overload the gates of heaven
Meanwhile, Paul Atredies on steroids hijacks a holy war so he can go meet his dad who lives in Wizard Jerusalem
