Rebecca and David will be revealed to be in revival vats. Cloning technology will have become advanced and some obscure company will be doing a client revival project that involves a chrome-brained clone and transferring the consciousness of a dying subject into their hyper clone using highly advanced technology. Rebecca and David would be scrapped up from the ground and barely kept alive, then eventually cloned to rapidly grown to their current ages clones then transferred to their new bodies. Both would end up with complete cyberbrains. Incidentally, this would stop both of them from having cyber psychosis in the future because of their brains being replaced and new tech. The only problem then is that being revived isn't free and they have to fight their way out from being slaves and then become free and return to the underground cyberpunk scene.

It's a cathartic, greek-style tragedy in a medium where effortless power fantasies are the norm. For most people it was their first experience with something like that.

It's also good at show-not-tell characterization and story telling too. David's nervous ticks are part of what depicts him as a restless teen cooped up in an environment he doesn't belong. They also go away after he starts Edgerunning, but that's something you have to notice, because there isn't a narrator who calls your attention to it. Lots of the emotional development of characters is communicated this way.

its a real sob story from start to end. I really can see if this is your first time seeing a story like this it would leave an impact. David seems to hold the whole sob story together, as he just keeps seeing sad crap all the time. then i thought about how much if he wasnt there the story would still play out the same. gang does gang shit, gang dies, the end lol. his mom passes, world a shit, bullies, drugs. i think its davids constant choice making that bothers me.

Definitely. I'm not a fan of misery porn either. Though there is the "sweet" part of bittersweet too. David never surrenders to the system and he keeps it together enough to save Lucy and make her lifelong dream come true. He could have just as easily gone like Maine and killed her in his madness, or just blown his own brains out the moment he realized it was over for him. He didn't conquer the world, but the world didn't conquer him either.

More broadly all organizations, corporations and gangs in-universe are completely corrupt as window dressing for stories about the resilience and defiance of individuals. That's the "punk" aspect of the genre. Willful, individualistic defiance even in the face of a completely corrupt society and overwhelming odds. It's like a whole universe custom built to act out the motifs and spirit of the punk rock movement.

I wish they did some sorta Edgerunners DLC where you play a scenarios from a braindance from David or Maine's crew. I do like that they included Edgerunners in some way.

I guess the main guy making edgerunners too told everyone "Daves dead" when asked if hes making a comeback. Good news, I figured their story wrapped up nicely. If they can keep the writing good then they should keep releasing seasons based on different people doing different things. Im sick of overarching storys about chosen ones destined to balance the force or whatever. It was refreshing to see the "good guys" lose...except that moon bitch, I guess everything worked out just fine for her.

David wasn’t The One™ - he was just a kid trying to do right by his mom and Lucy, and it chewed him up like everyone else. That’s the charm of Night City.
