Player bullets should have alpha set to 0.5 in shmups, or alpha gradient so that the player bullets close to the player are more transparent.

Shmups are so fun that for as far I can remember, I always did something like this:
>play a shmup that looks cool and difficult enough on the side, along with other games or watching anime
>learn it at a very relaxed pace, stage by stage, section by section, just focusing on doing one thing right at a time and watching it slowly come together
>eventually decide to give my full attention to shmups for a month or two, that's when I get all the 1ccs I wanted and sometimes a few more
>go back playing them on the side

Tyrian isn't really a "beginner" shmup, there's nothing that you can learn for other games and as a shmup it just really shitty in general
It's a "shmup for people who don't like shmups"

Actually a bad entry level shmup that only gives you a wrong idea of the genre, and overall just a trash franchise.
You will just end up thinking having shitty stages, effectively being a glorified boss rush against bullet sponges with tons of healthbars, and focusing on puzzle-like bullet patterns is the norm. You might also get way too used to slow ass enemy bullets.

Jumping into Psykio games from Touhou was a pretty fun experience. Great gameplay and stage, but the random ultra fast bullet barrages, lmao.
Touhou is still shit, though. Not even sure why I have a 1cc for that series.

Retard-kun, you said that Tyrian would be a good beginner shmup, i.e. that you think it has things you can learn and apply to others. That is the entire argument going on here.

Lol I can imagine. Psikyo infamously has no bullet deceleration most of the time and is mainly about positioning in advance, killing enemies quickly, and tapping along as opposed to slow methodical reading in drawn out boss fights.

When someone says "beginners X" the meaning 100% of the time is "thing of X that people who haven't tried X before will be able to enjoy and will teach/lead them to enjoy more complicated X"
Tyrian barely has a relation to the base, core philosophy of the average shmup, its basically not even the same genre of game

I can agree with this, but this is just me thinking beginner = easy
>will teach/lead them to enjoy more complicated X
I mean, yeah, this can be seen in mathematics and physics, but in games? Not sure. Some people right off the bat abhor simplistic, beginner "boring" designs. I can agree with you 2/3 on this.
But that's enough semantics. I wasn't even arguing about the "beginner" part.
>Tyrian barely has a relation to the base, core philosophy of the average shmup, its basically not even the same genre of game

On the topic of beginner shoot em ups. The guy whose playing every pc engine game had a couple Sega ones that were easy and felt like good introductions to the horizontal shooters. I think one was called Heli's adventure or something.

I agree with you, even the designed to be beginner th game is the worst for what you say. I don't think even has the most beautiful patterns either, which is the one appeal for me. >die once
>immediately alt-f4
and actually use continues as opportunities to learn later stages? My fingers just move on their own
That said, managed to reached stage 6 in Strikers 1945 today. Pretty happy, but I can't help but notice the game slowly turns into Bullet Hell from a somewhat manageable bullet density in the starting stages.

Either practice later stages through save states so you don't have to play the early ones every single time, or don't think about clearing the game at all, continue every time until you get a run where you beat every stage without needing it.

You are not supposed to, because those games are designed around you having to pay money for more attempts.

>What's that?
Emulator feature, you can start the game from the exact point you made a save state, that's extremely efficient for practice purposes compared to continuning.
Although it's not necessarily the most fun if you just want to play every stage and slowly do it better until it happens.

Trial and error. You're supposed to dodge the bullets that you know are coming. If you try to dodge them when they are visible then in many cases of hard shmups it's already too late and you died roughly 5 seconds ago but you just didn't know it yet.
Luckily this isn't the case with all shmups, but to get better at the genre you just need to recognize patterns. This is why shmup fans shit and piss themselves when anyone suggests if it would be fun to play a shmup that has RNG level design.

That's not related to OPs problem.
Sure, there are some cases of hard memo-shit with stuff like ex. you HAVE to know that some enemies come behind you at one point in Gradius III level 2 but that goes down massively as you enter into mid-90s and later shmups
OP is having issues with bad bullet visibility, which is fixed in other versions of the game
