Nah, vidya and really most fictional media in general is ruined because people in 201X-202X can only speak in references, and can only write about themselves and shit around them.
Doesn't help it's almost always about them and their beliefs, egotism personified, you can't just make some fictional world about evil sorcerers turning people to stone, no, you have to reference real world events, or you have to self-insert some personal story but flip it to make you the winner, or amplify your personal hate of a group and implement it in the game.

I think one of my favorite examples of this is Steven Universe.
In Steven Universe, Steven and the Gems redeem basically all the villains, but one.
He redeems genocidal borderline-goddesses that have destroyed planets and plan multiple times to destroy Earth (and nearly does so); he redeems psychopaths, befriends monsters, etc.
You know who he can't redeem? Kevin, a sexist womanizer. Guy's a bit of a creep and the show treats him like he eats babies.
