Gameplay and the dress up aspect. Being horny is a massive boost, but if it was all that was required visual novels would be trillion sellers.
It's the perfect combination of being an actually decent action game with high production values and countless outfits that they keep adding to free of charge and makes people want to keep sharing pictures and feeding the viral machine.
If the game was actually trash it wouldn't have legs.

But Chuds got it in their head that wokies hate overly sexualized characters, so they were willing to shill for a shitty game because they felt like having an oversexualized character in a game is some form of "own" against the wokes.
When the truth is: Wokes don't even hate sexual or very sexy characters. They just (rightfully) say it's retarded when someone puts overly sexy bikini bimbos in a game where they do not fit.
If you look at Baldurs Gate 3, a game beloved by wokes, you have way more nudity than stellar blade. as in: you actually have full frontal nudity. And pretty raunchy sex scenes. And nobody is writing any think pieces of the sexualization of those characters.

Nier Automata is a shit game. It has great controls so it fools midwits into thinking it has great gameplay. There is zero pushback in Nier Automata, the game plays itself, story is all it has going for it. It's a good story, I'll give it that. Stellar Blade is several times better when it comes to how you actually interact with it and how useful the systems are for actual combat scenarios beyond "omg it looks so cool when she does the thing!"

Are you high? Nier Automata is not a shit game. The moment to moment gameplay is not breathtaking, granted but it's far from shit. It's perfectly passable, some elements better than others. What makes it great is how the gameplay and the story come together.

Automata does have some really creatively designed fights, but it all crumbles under the game's incredibly poor RPG balancing. You don't actually need to interact with it in the slightest. That one boss fight against Adam & Eve in the spaceship come to mind, super cool circular arena 2D design, but when it comes to how it actually plays, my strongest memory of it is just walking around and spamming dodge for a few minutes because if I attacked them I would end the fight before I got to listen to the full dialogue. Because, much like many other shit semi/open world RPG-lites, you get stupidly overpowered by simply doing the quests.

It's not a shit game, I love it, but it has shit gameplay. Even the novelty of genre mixing is neutered compared to its predecessors but it blew midwit minds because they never played any of them, because they weren't popular enough.
Stellar Blade is shit in the story department by comparison, but it's a much better action game. Level design is better too, surprisingly, didn't think gooks had it in them to design somewhat decent levels for action games. Definitely a lost art in this industry.

That's my biggest issue with Nier Automata. Sure the bones of a decent Platinum game is there, but because of Taro's eccentricities, nearly 60% of the combat is just danmaku. The A2 vs 9s fight isn't even a proper Vergil vs Dante or Bayo vs Jeanne boss fight.

Gestalt had better discount 2hu bosses, in my opinion. Automata's greatest strength in the gameplay is how smooth it controls with beautiful animations and complete freedom to the player, but in turn that means the bullet hell is more like a bullet heck, there's no bite to it, you trivialize any pattern with dodge spam. Gestalt was very clunky but that meant you had to be a bit more careful in exchange.

Yeah. In touhou, positioning and wiggling yourself through the bullet hell patterns was a key part of the game. But the bayonetta controls means that you can just ignore most of the patterns aside from a few dark bullets you can't avoid.
