I'm sure the megalomaniac signage and decorations for companies in OP's pic felt dystopian to somebody born in the 1940s who grew up in a time where brands were never this big.
Not to defend the block slop designs of today, but this shit was always evil from the beginning.

Wait until this retard learns that even back in the medieval days, shops would have gaudy, overdesigned signage and even employ the village idiot to stand outside all day and bark advertisements at passersby. But please continue explaining how modern consumerism bad.

They booted out children and families to cater to people addicted to caffeine and hate kids. Big surprise.

McDonalds didn't NEED to appeal to anyone. They turned an entire generation into lifelong customers with their childlike appeal during the 80s to the 2000s and then changed their look to build in buildings that are easier to sell to any other business in case theirs fails. It looks like shit and is boring as fuck but it's just more profitable. jew logic.

I miss food courts from the late 90's. Crazy variety. The one is used to shop at was torn down for a strip mall in a long lasting gentrication process that has stripped the neighborhood off all personality. Sucks, but the joke is on them as there was a gang related shooting there about a month ago.

All the before and after images of restaurant redesigns are a good reflection of normalfag/reddit like peoples mental development and taste in entertainment.

When they were a child they werent unashamed to enjoy fast food, colors, fun designs, etc. As they become adults they still want the same food but feel ashamed by it, so they want it to be brown, grey, monotone, and fun taken out in case aomeone sees them. They still like thing, but arw immaturely overly conscious of what others would think of them.

Its why these people still like kiddie capeshit, but now its heckin rated R and so muhchurr. They still want to play games like zelda or rpgs, but it needa to be dark and machurr like dark souls or e33 now.

The more you grasp for maturity, the less mature you actually are.

Those games were just game trailer boxes. Fucking hellion children broke those controllers within days of them appearing in my store until management just gave up.

I actually like this aesthetic better. It's like how the Japanese are more modest and reserved than the west, and they invented minimalism. The spread of this aesthetic in the modern era is actually part of the japanization of people's tastes. If you go to Tokyo most of its more renovated areas all have this minimalist aesthetic.

I'm sorry to say this architectural style isn't spiritually Japanese-utilitarian as you think...at least, in a western context.

when you live here you start to underatand japs just dont like commitment to identity, which sounds weird but is hard to explain. they complain when any food is even slighly sweet or spicy or has any taste. they prefer tofu, white rice, raw fish, miso, i.e. things without taste or identity that stands out. people say theyre fashionable, but they all just wear brown or black generic clothes to not stand out.
we value uniqueness and thus use terms like sheep to insult people, but for them it would be a badge of honor to not be original.
its not just minimalism for japs, its creative death and boring
