Going to anime expo has been the biggest blackpill of my life and I hate it
The posting on /vg/ and big streamers like Asmon playing it at launch had actually made me believe Genshin and WuWa would be the one to break through in the west and finally put gachas on the map, but when I went to the stalls and booths it was as if I was the only white guy in the building. Probably 96% of the other people I met at the wuwa section were either transfer students or asian americans and unsurprisingly almost everyone was also chubby or fat. Even had some kid ask me if I was a content creator because he said I stood out
Now I just can't shake off the feeling that /vg/ is the exact same and I hate it because surely it's not true

Anime Expo is primarily a tourist trap type convention that normalfags only go to for the major event halls (stuff like debuts or places that'll have big reveals), like with SDCC or NYCC.

Again, the difference is being for normalfags and being a tourist trap type event.
Pretty much all conventions by their very nature have to be normalfag, since they need to rent out likely expensive space and get a variety of artists, all while maintaining enough appeal to possibly even get guests (even the smallest local conventions will find some cheap guest to drop by, Alyson Court is a staple of Canadian conventions for a reason).
There is no "anti-normalfag convention". Anti-normalfag elements can EXIST at conventions, though considering how puritan /v/ is, I don't think drinking parties and bathroom orgies are that appealing for the typical userbase here.

I don't know what I expected going into one of these conventions but I was particularly shocked by the rampant consumerism and faggotry. I'm retarded but I thought events like this would allow more fan interactions and cool shit instead of just being an open market full of slop figurines and sweaty old men. It's a shame there's no real life equivalent of 4chan semi general threads where you could meet up with a small community of like-minded people and discuss your interests. Like a book club or what feminists used to do in the past with tea parties. The modern web sucks with all the jeet botfarms and AI content, there's no genuineness anymore. Those conventions feel like that as well. Just a dance for consooming manchildren and cosplay whores who don't even know the material they're branding onto themselves. Thankfully I didn't go to it alone so shooting the shit with friends was fun but those events are soulless

On one hand, I believe this could be quite true. On this other, Anime Expo is in LA, obesity is rising rapidly there and the only reason some aren't as fat is because they're skinny from the drug crisis. Also, yeah, LA is pretty ethnically diverse.

The vast majority of the revue for gacha games comes from SEA people. Just because Tectone is a weeb doesn’t mean gacha games are in the public conscious in the western world.
