[Sad news] Sony's "Palworld Entertainment" reports final loss of 42 million yen for fiscal year ending March 2025

Palworld Entertainment's final loss for the fiscal year ending March 2025 was 42 million yen. This was revealed in the "Financial Results Announcement" published in the "Official Gazette" on June 30th.

The company is a joint venture between Sony Music Entertainment (SME), Aniplex, and Pocket Pair.

It was established in July 2024 to promote the domestic and international licensing business for Pocket Pair's game "Palworld."

Indeed. They bought Firewalk Studios, and saw Concord become this generation's ET for the Atari when they were expecting it to be the next Star Wars. They bought Bungie for billions and got nothing out of it but a dwindlling and tighter pocketed playerbase for Destiny, and a plagiarized embarassment in Marathon. They entered in huge exclusitivity deals with third parties like Square Enix and got Forspoken and the lowest selling mainline Final Fantasy in decades. Etc. Etc.

Yet despite all that, they still have made more profit in the ps5 era than they have in the previous 4 generations combined. This loss is but a pebble before on the tsunami tidal wave that is Playstation.

ET sank the entire american video game industry. We had 5 major console/micro PC makers(Atari, Matel, Coleco, Commodore and Magnavox, not to mention the dozen or so other consoles )in '82, since we've been only able to maintain 1 American console at a time and that console with the sole exception of the Xbox 360 has been dramatically behind it's Japanese counterparts.
