It's a solid little game. The battle system was innovative (square basically ripped it off with xenogears).
And overall it's just more enjoyable than most of squares PS1 games because they were busy trying to experiment with the genre, and mostly failing, while games like Legaia and Wild Arms etc while being more traditional and straightforward, ended up just being more enjoyable overall.

Because it's one of the few turn-based rpgs of it's time to have some really amazing combat animations. And it's also one of the few to almost be purely martial arts oriented

Looks like I have to start going there more. Great soundtrack and great story. I had a walkthrough that gave me all the moves, but it is fun experimenting with the combos. Also this is the first thread in over a year I am responding to, you should be honored.

Its got a cool combat system, although the game starts to become a real slog once you have all 3 characters as rounds of combat take a lot longer, plus all spells have animations equivalent to FF summons, so that adds a lot of time too.
Its an extra slog in the US version cut EXP and Gold gain by 66% so you now have to do a lot more grinding to afford better gear.

I should finish the game at some point, cause I'm at the final dungeon, but the motivation is just not there right now, I started playing this shit in 2018, but the slow battles and forced grindiness of the US version made it one hell of a slog that I can only stand to play for a bit like once a year now.

nta but supposedly it was because they were attempting to stop people from renting games.

They figured if they made the games ten times harder/longer, people would be forced to just buy a copy because otherwise you'd have to rent it 100 times to be able to finish it.

That anon is delusional thinking its better than Square's games, but Wild Arms is definitely a good game, 2 as well, both are definitely better than Legaia though, so yeah if you didn't like them, you'd probably hate Legaia.

I don't lurk /vr/ but LOL is a pretty good RPG. Capturing the monsters to use summon them later in battle and alternating between that and combo styles is fun. Also, the story is very interesting.

Tell ya what lads,
I just love these lower budget japanese games on 5th and 6th generation consoles by these tiny little studios.
They may not have had the mind blowing factor of stuff like FF7 but they were magical in their own little creative ways and they were always just goo solid fun.

This is how Baten Kaitos filtered me, too. That game has a x2 feature, but then you can't block because the input window shrinks to nothing. If they had added a fast forward button, would've been perfect

I remember playing it when I was young and thinking it was cool. I remember though that you could not just play through naturally and HAD to stop after like every town and spend an hour just grinding to continue. Learning that the USA version has money and XP turned down by nearly 70% makes a lot of sense. I kinda want to revisit it but it'd be cool if someone combined the english localization with the original game systems.

It's bigger in scale, but almost everything feels like a downgrade. The UI, sound effects, animations, atmosphere, etc. Basically all the little details feel less polished.

But to be fair, the first game was made late in the PS1's lifecycle, while the sequel was released the same year the PS2 launched. It might have been rushed, or the developers simply hadn't had time to fully adjust to the new hardware

DnB kinda ebbs and flows in terms of popularity. A bunch of albums I've listened to that have come out recently are adding dnb sounding tracks and Pendulum is coming out with a new album after 15 years.
