I'm playing right now and it's great. Haven't encountered anything woke, unless women talking is considered woke.

There’s a couple disgusting trannies here and there, but they’re very much in the “You’ll have to go out of your way to find out” camp.

It’s pretty good. Very worth.

Other than that troon sidequest the game seems as if it were written before the woke pandemy.

Is it woke? Yes it is, it has literal trannies lol. But you can also ignore the tranny when you're not supposed to and piss it off so it's also kinda based.

Jokes aside, I thought the base game was good but not great: first of all it's so fucking long if you decide to do all side quests and jobs, the main story is too disjointed, the side characters from each story arc don't meet each other, unlike say Witcher 3, where everyone you met slowly starts to come together, even if most only recognize each other's presence. Phantom Liberty is much better, more structured and detailed, doesn't overextend its stay and personally one of my favorite pieces of media in general. I don't know if you think it's worth the extra 20 something €/$ but for me it was.

a lot of the characters incorrectly make references to capitalism being the problem when the actual problem is technology. phantom liberty explores this a bit more with the cynosure lab section, as you play the game more it becomes more obvious that the same kind of misapplication of violence, political corruption, crime, etc. would happen in any mode of production

all of the racing side missions are centred on a transsexual character, and the reward for completing them is a car plastered in trans flags

that said, the game has an overt transhumanist element, so even without literal trannies it has an inherent progressive slant to its worldbuilding

no you can still do it. you just need something like the CET mod and the right console command.
Nexus may be a bitch but the swap is very easy.
The real bitch is getting the romance enhancement mods, ANY of them, to work properly.
They don't play well with having multiple people romanced and all stem from one dude who's work is pretty old and doesnt run well with the most recent version of the game.

That said its probably some scripting issues that theoretically can be easily changed.
