Its not necessarily bad no, but its just a lame and generic way of storytelling for a videogame.
When your game is about half cutscenes thats a problem, FFX has like 20 hours of cutscenes and the game takes 45 hours to beat, thats insane amount of cutscenes.

Cutscenes found a way to be good recently with the dialogue choice and interaction buttons that keeps the player engaged with whats happening, but even that can't save a game when it goes 50% cutscenes.

FFX cutscenes are not just normal cutscenes, they are long and overly animated, often taking way longer than they should because it was early into PS2 generation and they didn't have the knowledge to do them better, they are poorly paced and directed and the voice acting is bad and cheesy, the camera angles are not that good either, suffice to say its not a good movie game when it comes to cutscenes, not like those juicy Kojima games.

FFX was incredible for its time because of the graphical and design innovations, as well the incredible aesthetic. But yeah, not all of it holds up in retrospect, with the weakest part being the story, half of which doesn’t make any sense when you think about it for more than 5 minutes.
Not being able to skip cutscenes is also brutal.

Dream Zanarkand and its inhabitants are a summon, anon. The final dude inside Sin is the summoner, which is why Zanarkand and Tidus fuck off once he is defeated.

I love FFIX, but it's problems with the combat are far more than it just being slow. For one, the success rate of most abilities, like steal, is frustratingly low, to the point you don't even want to use them. On top of that, you have the ridiculous ability system, where you have to grind to learn anything. At the same time, the game doesn't tell you that you're fucking up your stats by grinding, because stat growth is based on equipment.

From the very beginning, your stat growth is partially based on what you're wearing (eg certain equipment will give a point to speed on level up, different equipment will give a point to strength on level up). It's an extremely old school system.
