its LITERALLY a cartel. HDMI isn't a port it's a DRM chip and you have to pay extra money up to decode anything passing through HDMI cables. TVs and consoles alike are extorted into this.

Displayport might be just as good but the quality control for their cables sucks. Ive had so many DP cables that have random artifacting at high resolutions/refresh rates because the chinese just fucking lie about what the cable is. I know it happens with HDMI also but ive had way mote success with 2.1 cables

Maybe if the lower class weren't such thieves we wouldn't have to go to such lengths to protect our media. We said "don't copy that floppy", you copied it anyway. We said unauthorized streaming or torrenting will lead to fines and prison time, you did it anyway. We could put "digital piracy is BAD" in big red letters and talk about how it takes food off our table but it wouldn't be enough. Poorfags just don't think middle management are people and it's sad. Why would I want to give my tax money to them after what they say about us?

I was googling DP vs HDMI and just learned that I can daisy-chain multiple monitors using DP. This will help cut down on my ugly cable management. I've always wondered how people use like 4 monitors with 1 graphics card. It also explains why so many monitors have 1 hdmi but 2 (TWO) display ports.

>I've always wondered how people use like 4 monitors with 1 graphics card.
Most GPUs have 3 or 4 ports to output from. My 3070 Ti has 1 HDMI + 3 DP for example. Also it's not a good idea to daisy chain your monitors because you're likely to run into bandwidth issues because all monitors have to use the same cable. So unless you are just using it to connect say 2 side monitors and putting your main monitor on it's own cable just don't do it.

Most TVs can't support anything over 60hz and normalfags don't play consoles on computer monitors. They don't need anything better than HDMI.

that and a lot of the companies that produce TVs, video game consoles, media players, etc are part of the HDMI group, so they benefit from having the racket forcing everyone to use HDMI for TV-centric consumer products. PCs only escaped this fate because other HD standards were already a thing before HDMI came out, so the two evolved in parallel.

Because HDMI is owned by a conglomerate of corporate entities with big skin in the home entertainment hardware game. Sony, Phillips, Hitachi, and Toshiba all have a stake in hdmi, and they all get royalties when the ports are used on devices. Anyone else who uses hdmi has to pay them to use it.

Display port is open source, so it's free to use since it was created by VESA to standardize monitor cables on one ubiquitous royalty free setup so the market could move away from the hodgepodge it had at the time of VGA/HDMI/DVI, etc.

tl;dr a cadre of big entertainment hardware companies profit off HDMI and won't let it die

>modern TVs are bloated sluggish "smart" crap
>monitors are pretty much better in every way except it's hard to find large ones and they never ever have remote control options, so using them from the couch is a huge pain in the ass

I bet the jews are behind this

The HDMI on my TV does 4k 144hz, why would it need anything else? Also, TVs don't have display ports so why in the fuck would they put a display port on a console which plugs into a TV 99% of the time. Consoles can't even do 4k 60.

USB is a convoluted mess. Nobody even fucking knows whether or not their device with USB is able to output video over it until they try and get utterly disappointed by this feature being absent.

Because the Chinese don't want to drive away manufacturing contracts from the HDMI Zaibatsu. Doesn't make sense for Sony or Toshiba to keep all their shit being made in china, if the chinese are trying to rug their format right? That's how you get your TV's and electronics made in india.

Display Port is just blocks of data like USB, indeed usb4 and thunderbolt include it as a mandatory feature. Though in practice supporting multiple displays from one port depends on the source and you can't push infinite pixels down the wire so a 3 monitor setup will have limited resolution
