Is it worth a play?

yes but the base module the game comes with are pretty crap, but they're more like a tutorial/proof of concept very generic adventure because you're more meant to play modded campaigns

base campaign is lame but the game's modability is on par with DOOM .wads, there's countless quality modules online to download and play. I recommend Swordflight though it may be a bit difficult
Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark are worth playing from the base campaigns, though.

Also multiplayer is alive if you like to RP.

I heard cleric is very strong in this game?

it's DND 3.5e with some slight changes to game-ify it, clerics are probably the strongest because they get shittons of spells and buffs for themselves but unbuffed they might be weak

Can't you rest in this game between every combat encounter though? There should be zero downtime on buffs.

Again it likely depends on the module, some like to restrict it to places or time passed but usually that's correct. So long as there's no enemies around, I think
Been ages since I played the OG campaigns with OG rulesets so I can't say for sure
