Because almost no one is developing arcades outside of adapting mobile shit. You can still have a reason for arcade games like doing things that aren't feasible for home that a lot of older games still did. Like Super Hang-On, Dance Dance Revolution (not everyone is willing to have a dance pad), Fist of the North Star, Silent Scope, and so on.

If you're wondering if this is a barcade, no. They're just mall arcades with Chuck E. Cheese branding inside of them. This is their second or third launch of these things because they weren't doing too hot and I guess the new pivot is to say that they're 'adult' themed. They don't have beer or anything you wouldn't find in an existing mall arcade from another brand. Chuck E. Cheese fans are pissed because some of the animatronics from the restaurants got busted up and locked into positions that they weren't meant to be in as statues.

BUT!!!! it’s also an ARCADE like when we were kids, so we can play awesome VIDEO GAMES, without dumb kids bothering us. speaking of which megan and i have finally decided to tie the knot- literally -we’re both getting snipped tomorrow at the hospital, that way we can save money to spent more on ourselves and our FURBABIES. i’m fuckin JACKED man, i’m gonna SLAM this craft beer and pop open another one!!!

Honestly there was a time in the Wii era when they tried shit like this when it was novel - it kinda worked. The problem now is that the big exercise gaming arcade stuff takes up LOTS of fucking space. Like equivalent to a big fuck you weight lifting machine or rack to get a DDR or a FotNS Arcade 2 setup, or even retro stuff like the old Punch Out with the punching bag or the Arm Wrestling from the 80s. so they'd have to get ENOUGH people using it to justify its presence and upkeep.

There's also the issue of morons breaking shit. The biggest hulkiest roid rage douche deciding he's totally going to full power the FotNS machine's targets means it breaks, or if he gets pissed off he was punching hard but not fast and got a low score and so he takes a dumbell and bashes the thing its repair time. Even if that doesn't happen you still have to have ernough people show up to use the machines and either A) buy a subscription that is required to use the machines, but they are free play, at the risk of making it so that people walking off the street won't come in or B) charge per play, or at very least merge the two so that random players can put in quarters but gym members can use tokens issued from the counter a certain amount per day/week for free.

Its an expensive prospect... but I wonder...

That's the difficulty. You do that too much, you don't get people who are close enough and will come to your gym specifically FOR the games. For a lot of the moms in yoga pants coming for classes or to lift a 5 lb weight, dudebros from high schools or colleges working out, or grunting roid rager bodybuilder types will be annoyed that there's a loud video game in their palace of fitness. I mean maybe some will try it once or twice, but they're coming for protein shakes and training and forget to wipe the benches of sweat . The people who love the games or even those who want to say... have Ring Fit Adventure day on a big screen (ie the fat guy getting fit at home with his Switch is not going to want to do it in public. I mean maybe some moms encouraging each other or twitch thots streaming themselves but you never know) are a different demographic and they may not want to pay a gym membership just for that stuff unless you have a best-in-the-state collection of vaguely physical arcade games etc. That is why I think it hasn't been done before.

I want arcades back, in the sense that I want arcade exclusive games developed by companies like Sega and Konami but this model died for a reason. Once home consoles dominated the market and even exceeded arcades there wasn't a point to them.

Similar to how movie theaters are losing to streaming, people find bothersome to drive out to a place only to have an inferior experience to what they could be enjoying at home.

Standalone game companies do not have access to the cutting edge technology that would make arcades feasible again, in that, they cannot develop hardware that could beat Nvidia or AMD, the best bet would be making VR exclusive titles for Arcades since VR is still not widespread, that would be the only chance for Arcades to make a comeback.
As for this is just a sad reminder that there are too many adults hooked up on nostalgia unable to let go.
It was a good time, it is over, it cannot comeback and it was not that great either.

Something that could bring back the classic 70s Chuck E Cheese style antagonism and grit but in a setting of adults trying to have a fun night out rather than needing to appeal to small children.

It is. The mall in my small town has one of those escape room/mystery game things. Back during corona they almost closed down because of a lack of traffic, then the owner's son came up with an idea of changing the escape room around to make it like FNaF. Shit is insanely popular and every time I go to the mall I see a huge crowd waiting for the next game to start.

About 20 years ago Disney had the Island of Adventure section in the Downtown area with bars that offered entertainment aimed at adults, but still you know on the level with the brand.
This worked terribly because drinking adults can be complete assholes to the cast and other guests.
I remember being at the comedy club and some frat boys had to be kicked out.
It was an improv bit and they were whatever to the point I remember more the frat boys than the actual jokes.
There was an adventure club that was pretty neat but again, people under influence are hard to manage reason the concept failed despite being comfy.

I feel only Universal studios did this idea correctly during the Horror Nights, then again the park is really EXPENSIVE so guests are not looking for trouble, meanwhile at other similar but less expensive themed parks adult guest would sneak in pot.
I really do not get why stoners need to be high for just about fucking everything, you can be stoned at home, you are not going to remember a fucking thing.

You would need to make Arcade experiences on par with Universal Studios attractions and charge over $100 a ticket for a meal and a ticket.
Would that work? Like let's say a stupid expensive Arcade multiplayer game like Tron or Quake on VR with outrageous production values? I am not sure if that is viable.
Or something like Top Gun as an Afterburner type game in VR and you step in a life size cockpit.

Apparently disney has someone do so as that turtle from Finding Nemo. It's for kids, but you'd just do it for adults. Since I think the success of vtuber shit is both (1) Waifu oneitis retards but also (2) Many more people can be a lot more outgoing, funny and engaging when they are no longer insecure about their appearance but are in an idealized form.

I get your point and I agree with it since retro-futurism is specific to a particular era and retro-sci-fi doesn't magically mean 90s-2000s sci fi because it's in the past. But city hall at least says X many years ago. But again, I get your point and share that view that retro should mean a specific 70s to early 90s era, and something from say 2000 is just older rather than retro.

No it isn't. You have Art-Deco Retrofuturism like Bioshock, Americana Retrofuturism like Fallout. As well as Gen X, Millennial, and Gen Z having their own retrofuturism styles based on the conceptions of the future that came from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. Stuff like Deathloop, Cyberpunk as a genre, Cruelty Squad, Hypnospace Outlaw. All of that counts as retrofuturism too. Most of them don't have names, or draw their names from what should rightfully be a subgenre of that particular variety of retrofuturism. Anything with a Victorian aesthetic is called Steampunk, even if it isn't particularly Punk influenced. Anything with a chunky, blocky aesthetic is called Cyberpunk, even if it's not particularly bleak.

It *can* be fun, but the mistakes people make are myriad:
>Drinking too much
You want to be tipsy, or at worst a little bit clumsy and silly. That's fun (and funny). It does indeed loosen tongues a bit. "Liquid courage" and all that. More than that is just miserable. You can't move under your own power without hurting yourself, damaging something or pissing people off. You're at risk of vomiting with no notice. You're guaranteed to wake up with a vicious hangover (or if you're an alcoholic, wake up drunk the next morning). You're similarly at risk of accusations of sexual assault without so much as a memory of the fun as consolation.
>Drinking with the wrong people
Sad drunks suck. They drag the mood down. Angry drunks suck more -- they pick fights, damage property, make the kind of noise neighbors complain about, and make people uncomfortable. You want to drink with happy drunks who laugh at bad jokes, laugh when they trip and fall, and play billiards just a bit better than when they're sober.
>Drinking in the wrong environment
Most bars suck unless you know pretty much everyone there (staff and regulars alike). Sports bars are worse (annoying sportsball fans, louder in general, far less tolerant of harmless drunken tomfoolery). House parties are better if you know the hosts; risky otherwise. Tailgating can be fun too if there's lots of people. Doing it with a small group on your own invites police interactions and busybody wokescolds.

Anonymous No.714650646

Kinda, but like the other anon mentioned its also part sports bar. This was not an issue. In the old days, Dave and Busters was pretty great. It had a HUGE arcade with both recent and older games, especially some big peripheral/experience using games. Dance Dance Revolution (though sadly the closest one always had Pump it Up instead which had a different step layout), Mario Kart driving games which were networked with all the machines present, Police 911 I think it was that was a "realistic" Japanese police game that was motion controlled with IR from above so you had to duck and lean, and more. For instance there was a shooter that took place in a giant darkened "room" with 2 doors, a 100"+ display broadcast and had sit-down spots for either 6 or 8 players. It was a co-op space fighter style game where each of the players controlled a different turret; I hadn't seen this style since I played something similar in a Las Vegas arcade years ago; I think they eventually used the same machine thing for a Halo co-op title but it wasn't anywhere near as good as the original couple of games on the platform. For awhile it was great and outside of the arcade, it had decent food and booze, TVs everwhere, pool tables, darts, one of those Golden Tee projection w/ real clubs and balls wacked at the screen golf simulators that you always saw some older guy getting frustrated, and a few other things. It wasn't the greatest "large arcade" I'd ever been to in the states (those being the couple that I saw in Las Vegas in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, but D&B was well worth and much closer its time.

>>714642435
The issue came at some point in the 2010s when they not only relaxed their kid policy (earlier you had to be 18 to enter by yourself at all and 21 on certain days/after certain times; otherwise, you needed an adult to get you in), but worse, switched from proper arcade games to all Raw Thrills-made knockoffs and "giant flappy bird" mobile garbage.

Is he actually confirmed for being voiced by Nolan North? I was worried they weren't going to get someone who could pull off the delivery for the kinds of jokes they were going for with Jasper. But if it's Nolan North, he's absolutely going to be everyone's favorite character.

They’ve only confirmed Chuck’s VA is Freddy from iCarly so far, with Grey Griffin, Nolan North, Kari Wahlgren and Fred Tatasciore in undisclosed roles, presumably the rest of the main cast. Given the kind of characters each VA is known for, it’s not hard to deduce who’s playing who.

cc isn't popular with modern kids like pokemn or something. Either leverage the brand with its generation or it dies completely. Also acohol is socially and publically acceptable unlike porn which is shameful and kept in private.

CEC is still visited for birthday parties or whatever but that's about it
CEC was already doing shit like ghost kitchens for their shitty pizza on delivery apps so this additional rebranding isn't that far off
the childhood -> dying brand -> appeal to millennials trend that has decent success path and it's the smartest thing to do

That was only during COVID, because no one was going to actively choose middling-ass Chuck E Cheese Pizza unless it was obfuscated.

I'm honestly surprised we haven't gotten a follow up beat-em-up based on The Simpsons. Imagine if someone made a new version that had Streets of Rage 4, Double Dragon Gaiden, Fight N Rage, Kunio/River city games (Rival Showdown, Girls 1 and 2, Underground) TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Scott Pilgrim, Castle Crashers etc...style depth, features, and content mixed with the fuckloads of Simpsons characters/lore/items/features etc of the past 30 fucking years. Could be amazing if done right, ideally with both a home PC / console release + arcade cabinet and you could transfer your save/progress between them.

Maybe not where you are from but in my big ass city their shitty ghost kitchen still pops up when you search pizza on delivery apps and it's very obvious it's them
it's crazy expensive too like $30+ for a large pizza I have zero idea how they are still in business

idk how to feel about this because most round 1s i went to in japan were technically 'barcades' except the bar was on a different floor than the vidya and the bar people mostly just played darts or pachinko

I have an arcade at my local mall and the pricing is fucking retarded
20 bucks lets you play like 3 games
What's worse is they make you pay on a prepaid card, so you're bound to always have some stuck leftover on there
Fuck arcades, they should just die for good

I had a genius idea and because I'm a good guy I'll share it instead of keeping it for myself to become a millionaire.
Open an animatronic barcade with animatronics sitting behind the bar making small talks with customers. How?

Use ai.

The only good use of ai I can think of. This and making npcs in mmo games "sentient".

The golden rule to win? Make the animatronics hot.

To be fair, where would discussion about arcades fit better? I'd say something like this does actually belong on /v/. Video games and their culture, and all that.
