Okay I am a esl retard so if I get this right, Carmack is working on RL agents which are AI agents that can learn from the environment rather than tables with the purpose of creating actually smart robots that can adapt and learn a multitude of task like people, so it is closer to actual intelligence.

A real world application is training one to do a simple task then when it has successfully learned, replicate the data on other similar devices and you go from one robot to several dozen that are just as a smart.

I am currently working in a chemical plant and yeah we totally need robots for of these tasks, getting evaporated by acid is not a Christian way to go.
