This game would be so much better if Pierre's and Joja Mart switched places.
The utter kino it would be, to have to walk past Joja to go to Pierre's, and feel the pull of convenience.

Walking by Pierre's to make sure he sees me carrying the 999 bags of Fairy Rose seeds (for Jas) that I bought from Joja.

Do not use SVE on your first playthrough. For one, it's an overwhelming amount of bloat. But most importantly, SVE has a nasty trend of turning its players into actual retards who cannot distinguish what's vanilla or modded and I do not want (You) becoming one of them.

As cartoonishly evil as the game made Joja Mart, I always found it refreshing that Pierre wasn't that much better from a purely customer service perspective. Even when his main competition is out of the picture he still complains about slow business and tries to justify selling locally grown produce (from a farmer that literally all his customers know, no less) at exorbitantly high prices with the standard "wow sorry I want to eat tonight, cheapskates".
Plus he's a cuck, which is funny too.

Hell no. SVE has an unhealthy focus on combat, not only gameplay-wise (the horrendous crimson wasteland area) but also in its narrative with the whole guild and ministry faggotry. It also commits the grave fanfiction sin of tacking on retarded bullshit to vanilla characters - Alex used to be obese, George learning he has cancer, the now removed event where Haley gets molested at the fair, etc.

It's supposed to be a comfy game without pressure or time limits, anything that changes that I think isn't worth it. Joja is implied to be winning at first and that's really enough. Next you'll want the bachelors to marry each other and for them to kick you out if you don't advance relationships by X amount. These are the problems harvest moon has.

Joja is objectively better than Pierre.

Without mentioning it was Joja who got rid of the boulder blocking the mines, sometimes save you when you pass out and gave a job to useless bums like Sam and Shane.

They were portrayed as evil because HURR CORPORATIONS EVIL, EMBRACE WHOLESOME TOWN, and becasue joja was the previous job you ran from at the intro.

I don't think they're portrayed as evil. Just lacking the human connection. And the game does kind of make a point about expecting the human connection to just exist in a small town because it's a small town is bullshit. The town is full of all sorts of fucked up people with secrets and problems they are avoiding. The player character basically has to become a messiah-like figure for all of Stardew Valley.

Joja being more inconvenient is the biggest issue with Stardew Valley. If the prices were better or the location was closer, it would help make the themes of the game much stronger.

In general, the updates for Stardew only really served to undermine the game, not strengthen it as the game tried to become more convenient, less thematic.

I do love the game but I think Ape became more concerned about giving players reasons to stick on a single save file then the themes of the game.

any good farming games that isnt stardew? i tried guardians of azuma but it was the furthest from scratching the inch so far. is not bad, just that farming is the lowest focus in it.
