What's the deal with the phenomena of modern gaming publishers sitting idly by well-known, beloved IPs and doing absolutely fucking nothing with them?

What, you prefer they shovel out half baked games until people are utterly disgusted when they hear the name of said IP?

>too expensive to produce games
>too valuable to sell IP
>just profitable enough to exist
The deliciously unique hell middle ground; famous enough to be in peoples minds rent free and those said people promote to whoever will listen so if any version of said IP is still selling on any market there’s always a none zero chance of sales, meanwhile you sit pretty not worrying if the new titles 100 million dollar budget gets double in return revenue ensuring the investors don’t crucify you using the unsold Special Edition statues, the shitty plastic nailed through your hands while they wave you around the company office, a screaming banner of incompetence, the fucking idiot that wanted to make videogames in the game industry

If they don't have direct control they want them to fail. It's the corporate apple way of buying out competition or collaborators, they are all the same NOT under your banner. Respawn was forced into dire straights just so EA can have more power and rights bailing them out to make a BR

This pretty much: >>714651512
In shorter terms, most of EA’s revenue comes from live service games and their monetization. Not even including base game sales. We’re not getting Titanfall 3. Blame your fellow man because this wouldn’t be possible without them

Well yeah removing the competition and making your industry a monopoly / oligarchy is the scummy way too success.

1. By holding IP, nobody else can use it
2. By holding IP, someone, somewhere, some day, might want to use it enough that they'll license it from you, now you're making money for doing nothing

As this guy say >>714650856
Most of the problem in gaming come from studio only making the same "AAA" game in loop (cause reusing asset is cheaper and safer)

That's not what >>714652387 is about.
OP is crying because he became OBSESSED with a game and might buy it regardless if it does anything new compared to the previous iteration.
"this guy" would actually prefer "competition" because it let him polarize his product as superior simply out of social inertia making it the "reference".

Take Bethesda shit as example, all gamers know it is limited as fuck and shit without mods, but as long as the mainstream consumer still believe it is representative they would buy it.

Nowadays, the rise of Indy development and Online Store took a lot of share upon the Big "AAA" IP model hyped up by advertising.
Now studios are trying to find the new cheapass minecraft that spread like a meme. Leading to them spending more on lowcost social-games with memetic appeal.
