Why did /v/ lie to me and say this game was bad and woke? The gameplay is fun as hell, the atmosphere is peak, and honestly the MC in-engine looks fine, for some reason they edited her to look ugly on the cover. Anyway, after spending a good chunk of the day playing it, I thought I'd start a bread. Favorite weapons/ sub-weapons? Favorite biome? Adaptive or Classic controls? (I roll with classic)

I had a great time with the game but stopped when I beat it even though that run tore through multiple biomes I've only seen once as a result. Absolutely unmatched atmosphere. My favorite boss fight by far is the organist.

Just because some /v/irgins were too harsh on it doesn't mean you have to overrate it. The gameplay is adequate. The level design is adequate. The story is adequate, and could have been better if they left it more obviously ambiguous since the planet and cosmic horror alien is actually real, instead of leaning so heavily on "It's just trauma and all in her head," which ruined it for a lot of people.

The game is actually worse for being a roguelite. Half the weapons suck. Level design is pretty bland because of being a rogue lite, though visually it looks pretty good. 7/10 game.

Incredible game.
Whoever skipped it due to 4chan making shit jokes about the MC... You are missing on a legit game.
Fast and responsive gameplay, weapons that feel different from each other AND that get subtypes and upgrades that in cases actually change how the weapon behaves, not just random "+1% dmg to undead while burning", fantastic music, pristine atmosphere...
Also barely no permanent upgrades, you get to keep your metroivania unlocks which allow you to explore more rooms in each biome so you might get more powerful and you also get permanent more trinket slots, but no passive stats, so if you want to advance in the game you have to get better and .... you do, you will get better. You will go from struggling with the first boss to clear several biomes in a single run.
My only (two) gripes with the game were that there was no reason to tell the story on such a convoluted, open, and obscure manner, game would have benefitted from a more straight narration; and that once you finish the game the first time is hard to do repeat runs. That last one might be a "me" problem as i dont really enjoy roguelites or roguelikes or whatever.

The gunplay is excellent, amazingly fun combat. The roguelite aspect is clearly just slapped on to sell this game to normies who never heard of the genre though. Your main source of power is the gun you find, the artifacts hardly matter. It should just have been a linear game

You start the game and its those 3 biomes (jungle where you crashed, desert/mountain climb, city).
After that you have a big ass cutscene that has a really neat moment on it and you open a second "run" which has 3 new biomes. You finish that run to finish the story and open the chance to do the "real ending".
You can run either "half" when you want but they are just 3 biomes each, you can't run the 6 on a single run

The answer to the question is you might have brain damage. Returnal doesn’t actually take advantage of the adaptive triggers, it just leaves a button completely unbound in order to use half press for alt fire by default, and alt fire is horrific on (almost) every weapon and you can platinum the game without using it one single time. You’re better served rebinding it so you don’t get caught in a mistake mid fight.
As far as “what games make the trigger jam and pull in a way as completely opposite to how any firearm works in real life as you could possibly get” then CoD for sure and most other FPS games on the PS5. I don’t know how well they ported the functionality to PC if that’s what you’re asking.

Best weapon for me was Electro pylon driver, the kind where you shoot solo stakes, not whole nets.
Extremely good for boss fights because of it's fire-and-forget nature, so you can focus on dodging while the boss gets damaged over time.
Also easy to use for defensive purposes like against the homing underwater enemies that attack in swarms.

Favorite gun? Not sure. I think it's probably the ones that lay darts that connect to other darts to make red electric field traps. Works wonderfully by shooting multiple enemies which casts a wide field to hurt other enemies.

I was super excited to see them coming out with another game "Saros". I really really hope they put it out on PC same day.

The best PS5 made even better because of the Steam release.
Disappointed it was all a therapy session but it doesn't really take from the game.

I finished the game months ago and got all trophies but i need to get something off my chest. During one of the runs in one of those safe areas in a biome where you can buy items i saw a small astronaut on a ledge but when i looked around a bit and climbed up there he was gone. Am i going crazy or is that a thing? Worst part is the astronaut actually scared me during the house sequences so i‘m not sure

Thoughts on saros having more metaprogression that will make each run easier? I actually liked the lack of that in returnal because it meant that i only got further in a run because i got better and not because i became stronger. Guess it makes if they want to make it less frustrating for casuals but it‘s still disappointing

There is a limited amount of enemies per biome and the weapon level powerup is weighted so it gives more weapon xp the lower your level is, so you can skip rooms or biomes altogether and still reach a decent level.

The astronaut is a manifestation of the guilt from abandoning her disabled mother (which was a real honest to god astronaut) and from the death of her son whom she might have aborted.
The story is not 100% clear, there is a lot open to interpretation.

Never stop moving in combat, master the timed reload, use the strangling vines to climb up ledges, barriers that need a button to open always have the button nearby in the same room, keep unlocking traits for the weapons, after every biome you get a metroidvania upgrade to explore more so when you wipe you can explore more rooms to get more upgrades, a bunch of parasites are simply upgrades with little to no downsides, beware if you have 3 malfunctions on your suit as picking a 4th malfunction instead deletes one of your trinkets

Learn enemy bullet patterns. Explore. Take it slow. Look for weapon upgrades. If you have a weapon that shows a grayed out option with 0%, use the weapon until you unlock that upgrade.
If you're low health, there is almost always a green resin somewhere on the map.
Don't be afraid to melee enemies.
Red shielded enemies have to be meleed first.
Get good reloading, it makes a world of difference.
Try not to get hit as you'll gain max efficiency.
Expect to die a lot.
The story is told over DOZENS of runs.
