There are some great ideas there, but maybe not enough iteration during the design phase or something led to an incomplete implementation.
The game would actually work if the player could feel a real sense of progression, this would require some genius level designers that would be able to create challenges that would require the player designing ever more complex and interesting gadgets built upon knowledge from designing simpler ones and playing around with the tools available to him.
The concept was too smart for the devs that worked on it to pull it off, maybe limited hardware held it back, this needed a much more robust simulation of the game world.

I'll give an example, I made the simple raft with put a fan on each side, my idea was that I could turn one fan or the other and steer the boat that way or turn both and move forward, a very simple concept for a vehicle, but you are limited because you can only have either all engines on or all engines off, to steer the vehicle, you need the "steer" stick that magically turns things around, the same thing applies to the flying wings, do you see how limited the tools available to the player are?

It's a sandbox with faulty lego pieces.

The game is like the opposite of a DLC, and i don't mean that as a compliment. they completely reworked everything from the devs end, but as far as from the players end the changes are really minor and the content is roughly the same.

The fact that a large portion of the playerbase approached the game using the same builds (pulled from online sources) is a decent counter to the "omg this game is so open ended + creative" narrative. It's not a good sign when your playerbase actively chooses to avoid engagement with a core game mechanic.

I'm replaying this masterpiece on my Switch 2 right now. Incredible game.

Corpos and shills working hard from stopping Nintendo games from creating more generational culture and nostalgia is so bizzare, sometimes I wonder which entities are at work, the hatred for Tears of the Kingdom and the Switch 2 are their best fabricated hatred campaign, but the good thing is that they usually don't last or leave a lasting effect.

if you could see the landscape you be less blind, Nintendo is a treat to corporations like Microsoft/Valve/China in general, they want to create a ecosystem where you are consistent paying pig for games you already pay for, be it microtransactions, game passes, gacha, everything in their power to make sure you are a monthly returning client.

Nintendo defies that structure they want to build, but most of you are too blind or have fallen too deep into that ecosystem already, Nintendo is no King, they are just the irrational old man that wants things to stay the same, which just happens to align with customers benefits.
