I literally just downloaded a rom and played for the first time a couple hours ago. Holy shit the gameplay is good. City Trial is disappointing for only having one round and not having a straight-forward racing outside of a drag. Kind of an overrated game mode. Air ride mode is better, but it's missing a grand prix mode.

The gayest part is that you could easily have real fans of these games if Nintendo would simply port them instead of holding them hostage for marketing NSO and expensive, pointless remakes.

I wouldn't call the game shit, but you sure as hell don't want to buy it at full price either. This was a game you'd only ever get out of a pre-owned or clearance bin if you found it that way. Even in 2003, this game just didn't have the content to be worth the price. Nine tracks and not even any Grand Prix? On top of that, the machines are a little TOO wacky in design, so playing with friends becomes less about anyone's racing skills and more about who made the less/more retarded choice in machine (and if some fucker knows how to use the Swerve Star, nothing else is competing with that.) It really is carried exclusively by the one extra mode. (Top Ride is also fun, but barely lasts ten minutes before you're done with it.)

Air Ride is just bullshitting yourself through with the right machine
City Trial is a battle royale prototype
Top Ride is bullshitting yourself through map events by luck

The game is more fun by fucking your friends over. Destroying his machine seconds before City Trial finishes or winning top ride because the sand worm spit you out forward while your friend gets pushed back 3 times in a row.
Meanwhile in Air Ride you pick Meta Knight and autowin against most matchups.

Can't wait for metafags to ruin the game for everyone because some tranny datamined the 3 possible locations were legendary machines appear based on his starting location and obviously knowing the final game from the first hint.

The news seems more exciting then the idea of the game itself for the sequel. Look how lively and characteristic the font for this game's title is then the new one is just a flat black.

I'm currently designing a huge autistic kirby air ride ruleset to subject my irl friends to. The main idea is that it takes advantage of the fact that the game lets you adjust each player's speed using the handicap feature.

Game magazines and general internet reception when it came out was negative. Then little kids who grew up with that game changed discourse in a positive direction since no one cared enough to dismiss them. Now you have them wasting time and money in a sequel, so you have people actually raising their voices about how the game was negatively received, so making a sequel is odd.

The game abandoned depth to be an extremely shallow racer and outside of fucking around with friends in City Trial and the great ost there is very little enjoyment to be had.

Hell, it's even the worse racer on the console with F-Zero and Mario Kart being significantly better.
