Train racing game, released in like 3 countries globally.

>bash other players off the tracks by switching between rails
>maintain your balance on tight corners or you'll derail

Buying a console with no games is a weird way to show parental love. Or maybe they tried to go for a high IQ move and stop you from playing video games that way.

First ps2 game i ever had, got it from funcoland the day after christmas. I had never played anything like it, it had such a strange atmosphere. My older sister liked watching me play it for some reason, she got a kick out of the old guy saying "I hope you die". I was genuinely baffled when I found out everybody hated it. Especially the music, the soundtrack is downright majestic and people frequently list it as one of the worst ever, I don't get it

I never understood this thing where calling someone poor is a roast. Is it a thirdie / brownie thing? Growing up poor means you faced hardship and had it rough and I don't see it as a reason to roast, talk down to or call someone out at all.

damn I've never seen people discussing this one here and never got replies when I posted it, I think it fits the obscure bill pretty well

I remember being kind of scared by this game at first, especially with the whole zerg creep sort of thing going on and the bigger monsters. There were some tracks by breaking benjamin I think? Which was certainly... interesting I suppose

I never did end up beating it though, I remember getting stuck pretty far into it in a place where I was trying to blow up a gas tank with a guided rocket I think, the gas tank was not blowing up, probably wasn't a bug and my young self was just doing something retarded, I remember later on watching the ending on youtube and it had a sequel hook, but we know how that turned out

Just was a little kid and I didn't get to ask for many games. I still had some stuff for the PS1 I played for a long time and discovered emulators at some time too, while having Tekken 5 to keep me busy alongside WWE purely with regards to PS2 titles (that I put a fuckton of time into). Somehow I didn't play that much vidya as a kid compared to today/was often at friends etc..

Based, this game was the first Left4Dead. Too bad I didn't have internet to play it online, but single player was fun.

For me it was a PS1 game, Brave Fencer Musashi. This game was criminally underrated. They made a sequel for the PS2, but it had nothing to do with the original and it was trash.

I'd say the same but in hindsight most of the things I put any decent amount of time into were pretty surface-level. Honestly the most obscure thing I did was playing FF3 on an NES emulator on it but I feel like that's cheating.

For the time, in bumfuck flyoverville USA, those games might as well have been from Mars.
Honorable Mention to the JP Version of Dragon Seed that I somehow managed to stumble through as a 8 year old with zero Japanese language knowledge. I didn't even know what the game was called until I saw it again in my 20's, I have no clue how it ended up at my local rental store. is this one obscure? I don't know.
I had a GC growing up, and got a PS2 only very late into its lifetime.
I never finished this game but sometimes its visuals come to mind. Is it actually good, or is it nostalgia telling me to give it a go one more time?

It's a quick watch, the episodes are only about two minutes long each and I think it's all on youtube. There's four seasons and most of the cutscene footage from the game is taken straight from the anime.

You still get a decent payout so long as you weren't spotted prior to the throw and the lords love it when you complete the missions fast. Sometimes there is collateral but they usually get over it when they see the results.

>You can go ANYWHERE
I'm serious, you can go wherever the fuck you want in the map, there's no arbitrary thing stopping you other than strong enemies.
>Huge vehicle system
Variety of cars, tanks including some special hidden ones
>Multiple party members you can swap out at anytime
They serve a similar function but have different skillsets, one of them is extremely unique cause she's a cyborg and cannot be revived via normal means, in fact if she dies in combat 3 times, she's dead for good, you can turn her into a chip to use on your weapons
>Can't rez like normal
There are I believe 2 revive items in the entire game, you can't die in combat otherwise you have to drag your friend's corpse to a mad scientist to get bring them back.
>4th party member is always a dog
A dog you can put a bazooka on.
>Multiple endings
There's tons of dialogue options that can lead you to an ending like an arranged marriage or joining a cult.
>Absurd amount of optional shit to do
From finding the super secret giga tank to doing all the bounties.
I found out much later that this is one bug game of a fairly popular series in Japan.
Its a great fucking RPG, highly recommend.
I'll only give one piece of advice.
When you do the final bounty and she says "Bring a vehicle if you want" listen to her. You will die otherwise.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck this game and the horse it rode on, holy shit. It'd be the worst game I've ever played in my entire life if not for the existence of the Saints Row reboot. And fuck the soundtrack in particular, it's awful when you listen to the tracks on YouTube, but it's absolute hell when you actually have to listen to those torturous tracks on repeat while playing. If you like this game, get away from me.

>Sometimes it bugs me that Armstrong and Shepherd get all the credit. But we all wanted to win the Cold War. And we were ready to commit our lives to getting the bio-metal. The military boys had used up all the material that had fallen to earth, and they still needed more. They went looking for a few cowboys to do the job, and in the end they orchestrated the world's biggest coverup. They snuck a whole army into space and not a soul knew a thing. Now it's time. People should know why it was so important that we won the Space Race. People should know what happened to all those who went missing. The dead should get their honors, and should have their place in history. Because history has a way of repeating itself.

I remember one single time when I got the exact lighting setup in the right room that somehow made the tracking in this game work. It was probably partly placebo effect and I was just falling for the hype, but 8 year old me thought it was unbelievably immersive, like I was really on a hoverboard, exactly what you imagine futuristic VR should be like.

Any time I tried to play it or any other EyeToy game after it was just a janky mess that barely worked, but I want to believe that exactly once I was able to experience the true EyeToy as intended, and glimpse the future of gaming.

It's funny at the time the digital devil saga games felt like one of the more popular ps2 era megatan games but since personas extreme rise in popularity, nocturne's remake and the raidou devil summoner remake it now feels left behind and forgotten.
I'd also say zone of the enders but everyone had it just for the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo, who knows how many played the actual game.

kek I had that one in mind
played with my little brother, favorite part was redoing certain section again and again until perfection because we had like 7 bullets between the two of us.
We beat it without losing anyone. Second game was just depressing... and the fixed chars didn't help it at all.
I loved obscure bro, I even bought this one for me and the bros back when steam still sold 4-packs just to keep the series going but I guess it sold like shit lol...

This really was kino, you were in a giant mech that could transform from land to air form, and I guess it was in a kind of Command and Conquer style universe. Quite a few cool scenarios and units to blow up.

But it was on Xbox and PC too!

Yeah man, PS2 was just built different. You could grab literally anything off the shelf at Blockbuster and itโ€™d be some weird, memorable experience. Half those games were jank as hell but they had SOUL. Like, even the licensed stuff felt more alive than most modern junk. Give 'em a shot, you're in for a trip.
