Strong disagree. Easily the most impactful ending to a TV series I've ever watched, and unlike GoT it all "made sense" given the characters and setting. However, like GoT it was preceeded by the worst season (or seasons in GoT's case) of the whole series. As weird as it sounds, Rosanne also had a really impactful ending. In my headcanon both the basestars just had a skeleton crew to act as scouts/sentries for New Caprica and neither was well enough staffed to be able to fight at full strength.
Lee wasn't willing to let his dad die and arrived to see Galactica on the brink of destruction so made the decision to sacrifice Pegasus to buy Galactica enough time to make a jump and not risk it being destroyed before it could jump.
The Cylons as far as we know had fairly expendable resources by comparison, so probably would have prioritised finishing Galactica off even if it meant they lost all three basestars to Pegasus.

Basically it's all about positioning and learning what ships have which gun positions. Like for example the Colonial Corvette has one regular gun below its bow and then two light guns pointing up at its stern. So you can charge in to fight a target below you and then take potshots as you disengage for another charge. And of course you use missiles to wear down armor.

This was where the show fucked up for me. They destroy the resurrection ship and suddenly the cylons are on the back foot. the cylon FTL drives are able to jump from the 13 colonies to bumfuck space where the fleet is in a single jump. they can easily bring in reinforcements. shit, they can spam nukes like in the original attack but they rarely use nukes after the movie

Yeah but if you aren't fully crewed you probably can't reload the torpedoes to engage the other basestars quick enough before they start pounding you. He also didn't have any fighters onboard so would have been overwhelmed with fighters in an instant. Also, there was no knowing whether several more basestars were imminently going to jump in.
It's very easy to go 'what if', but in the spur of the moment, it was a less risky strategy that ultimately worked even if it was at a high cost.
