>bought this on steam sale
>it's fucking fun as hell
Is this just not a very well known game? It's still in early access but I got 50 hours on content out of it before hitting the end of the current content.
>>714675815 (OP)one of my all time favourites, imo any survival crafter with procedural generation is automatically shit AF and Grounded both solve that by having a perfectly crafted world but I think the one in AF is supreme. I love slowly opening the map up, finding shortcuts to make my runbacks faster. also yeah, it's kinda niche for now
>>714675815 (OP)Game is so ass to play solo
>Just get friendslol
>>714675815 (OP)I made it to the reactors and got burnt out, everything down there takes so long to kill, deals so much damage and healing never really got any better than it was at the start. World design is some of the best though, love all the shortcuts.
>>714675815 (OP)I play it solo but coop is way more fun desu

>>714675815 (OP)>Is this just not a very well known game? Its one of a whole slew of co-op survival FOTM games. They're all designed to be streamer bait. A new one with a new gimmick comes out seemingly every month. So everyone drops the previous one and migrates to the new one. Last month or the month before it was REPO, robots stealing a bunch of shit from locations. This month its one where you and your friends climb up a mountain together. Next month there is bound to be another. They just keep shitting them out
>>714679752you're actually fucking retarded to put this game in the same category as those, those games all have simple gameplay surrounding a very simple concept. AF is mashing together lots of old school gaming vibes and doing it with an insane amount of love and care. Seriously please don't open your mouth when you don't know wtaf you're discussing and have never played any of the games
>>714679904How about you shut the fuck up. Its clearly in the same genre. Its co-op survival trash. And there is a reason why you think its so obscure. Because everyone already moved on from it long ago to the next one in the trend. You're late to the party
>>714675815 (OP)All backpacks from now should have the jetpack function because otherwise I'm going to be stucked with the longjump until the game ends, or even better, make a slot for the jetpack.
>>714678754It's even more ass to play in co-op imo, someone will always miss some cool shit happening.
>>714675815 (OP)i brought it just because the devs seems nice and its obviously gldsrc nostalgia bait despite not being gldsrc. i don't actually play crafting survival shit.
you can laugh and call me reddit if you want.
>>714679904>insane amount of love and careOh fuck off
>>714680285I'm not gonna call you reddit, but I am going to call you stupid for buying a game to not play it.
No one in my list wants to buy it to play with me, I get bored after the first TP, also I hate durability
>le human vs da monster
>ya gots to survive n stuff
>oh hoo hoo its puzzly
No take your boring unimaginative shit game and suffocate on your mediocre product. Maybe next time around let people be the monster and splatter every last human throughout the game all over the walls, floor, and ceiling.
>>714680112or maybe if you weren't a mouth breather you'd compare it to an actual genre it's a part of which is the endless slew of EA survival crafters. AF shares nothing with Repo, Lethal Company or Peak except the coop nature, fundamentally different experiences. All those FOTM games you describe aren't meant to be played for hundreds of hours, they're just a few weekends of fun with the boys and then maybe a game here and there for old times sake. I'm over 200 hours deep on my solo AF save and the game hasn't fully released yet. Maybe next time try playing any of the games you decide to shit on, or get friends to play with. It's much more entertaining that way!
>>714680172If they aren't already working on it, they could add mods for the backpack like what they're doing for weapons. Put in a jetpack mod and steal some ideas from Fallout 76's backpacks like fridge mods or weight reduction mods for certain item types
>>714680326Compare it to any other slop they're shoving these days. This game has soul and if you played for ten seconds you'd realize it's made by people who love old school gaming.
>>714680550>200 hours solo>telling other people to get friendskeep coping
>>714680378Just do what I did and tweak the durability in the sandbox sliders, I also maxxed out enemy damage to balance the challenge a bit better
>>714675815 (OP)great game, gets kinda grindy though but at least you can adjust/disable shit like sleep/hunger/degradation
Latest area burned me out though, the new enemies are a pain to fight
>>714679752You would know it's not a streamer bait game if you just played it for an hour or two. That's like saying Grounded or Forest sequel is FOTM or streamer bait when it's neither.
I really liked abiotic factor, I need to get back into it
>>714680645I'm a vidya addict what can I say. Every day after work is 4+ hours of gaming and the weekends are for when my normie friends want to game.

>>714680172>>714680629You can activate longjump pack by holding it in your hotbar and double jumping.

>>714680980What does fully mean? New area and an ending?
>>714675815 (OP)I love how much it clearly loves Half-Life. Needs more unspeakable horrors though. The main alien invasion force aren't even as horrific as headcrab zombies.
>>714679752>streamer baitGod, fuck off. "Survival games" are for you to experience yourself, and personalize your own base and equipment. That's the exact opposite of "streamer bait."

>>714681289The world design and general structure are easily my favorite things about the game
>>714682612Uh oh she's seething now..
Grounded 2 and Abiotic Factor dropping within a week? Yeah we eating good bros
I played it on launch with two friends and we had fun. Although one friend just stayed in base and cooked all the time and never explored with us. I think he was upset because the game gives you a few pistols and eventually smg's but ammo is so fucking rare than no one can even use them. Combat in general needed some more polish but felt alright given the graphics and rest of the game. It was funny when we got to the point that the floating alien would spawn and our friend at base would freak out saying its watching him and eventually killed him.
>>714683152>but ammo is so fucking rare than no one can even use themit doesn't matter, the guns are total dogshit. le wacky science weapons are always way way better
>>714678754>Game is so ass to play soloi actually liked playing it solo more than co-op cause i got to explore at my own pace and listen to all the audiotapes/read the emails without waiting for someone else to get up to me.
playing co-op was kinda stinky cause you're constantly stopping for someone else to be on to go to the parts you haven't explored yet.
>>714683056I like abiotic factor a hell of a lot more than grounded. Now THAT is a grindy game.
>>714683152>ammo is so fucking rareguns are badly balanced and the inability to craft gun ammo means melee and the DIY guns are superior
the crossbow is pretty decent with headshots and the shotgun does massive damage at point blank
later on you can craft a semi-auto crossbow which fixes the slow fire rate/load issue, but by that point you can craft the laser which destroys almost everything at the cost of being annoying to recharge when it runs out of juice
>>714681289Have you played Subnautica? Despite how it looks it's not procgen.
>>714683498antique shotgun the goat
>>714683552i couldnt handle its slow ass loading, i just carry the annihilator laser and a charging dock with me
>>714683152I don't get why people play coop like this, when I play with my friend we chill at base for a while and precook a bunch of shit and then go explore together always. Unless your friend enjoys staying at base?
>>714683784malewife phenotype
>>714681894Not much lore to dump, it was supposed to be a zombie survival game back in 2013 or so, they overpromised, kept trying to remake the game 3 times and on the 3rd they switched the engine and dropped the whole game because "gamedev is hard guys, we give up", no refunds or any kind of compensation was given.
Essentially one of if not the first early access/greenlight scams.
>>714682147You've seen 3, I've seen a hundred.
The game is nothing special, it's as basic as basic can be survival game with shitty gameplay but a great setting and premise which are only good because both are pretty much carbon copied from half-life, the idea is good but the execution not so much.
The absolutely shameless dev shilling in this thread is unreal
>>714675815 (OP)It's 35 dollar EAslop that's too pretentious and/or greedy to go on a meaningful sale, so they just peddle you shitty 20ish% offs. You have to be really lucky to get away with that kind of shit as an indie developer.
>I can't believe people are talking about videogames on /v/
How did these subhumans get here?
>>714683969yeah man, i bet the devs care about the 25 boomers who still use this dogshit site. I hate you so much it's unreal. Let's have yet another 50 million gacha threads and kojima hate instead
>>714683879>The game is nothing specialI've personally never seen a survival crafting game taking place inside of office buildings and labs, nor have a I seen many legitimate love letters to Half-Life, so no, I don't agree.

The only somewhat scary survivalhorroropenworld game I played is the first Forest. Even in coop it was quite unsettling sometimes.
>>714684254Obviously I'm watching this through a lens of butthurt, I did mention I will never forgive the devs for The Dead Linger in my first post.
Like I said I do like the setting and premise but the gameplay itself is not great.
>>714684374I mean maybe so but they even said they didn't buy a slot at the summer games fest because their game has gotten all the exposure it's going to get. I just don't see the point in trying to get the few handful of anons here who still play vidya to buy their product
>>714684371That might be a reason why players would discuss it more too. You know people get hype closer to major updates, right?
>>714678754solo is the only way I've been able to make progress in the game because every time my friends have wanted to play it they get bored or too drunk or something by the time we get our first base set up.

>>7146788641.0 is adding an upgrade bench. will hopefully make things better
that aside, are you using the right weapons? your only real weapon options for damage at that point are
>laser gun, alt fire can make quick work of most things but its ammo hungry so you'll want a teleporter for quick travel. important note: overshooting a corpse has a high chance ruin any butcher materials.>laser katana, not as ammo hungry but far less damage>impact hammer, can one shot almost anything (except the miniboss enemies) with a heavy sneak attack, but its too slow to feasibly use for anything else even with its bonus damage on low hp enemies>explosive sledge, deals as much base damage as the impact hammer, but with explosive cartridges it can deal and additional x2.5. downside is that the explosive rats are a bit spongey.>quill spear, enough damage for a light weapon, but takes exor quills as ammo.>antique shotgun, once you get into the reactor anteverse, shotgun ammo becomes a non issue. but thats also the current end of content. cant do much but prepare for 1.0 at that point.

>>714686785I don't remember if this is before or after that point, but catch this little fucker in a net as soon as you see him. Just keep a barrel of toxic goo to fill him up. You'll need to scoop radioactive waste and bring it home but it lasts good amount of refills.
Also, the "Deatomizer" is so good, I built two. The ammo generator you place in your base is efficient enough for 2 full charges anyways, if you leave it be long enough.
>>714684695way i did it was just playing with friends to explore new areas and use them as human shields/bait, then go grind for weapons and armor when they're offline
>>714675815 (OP)Not to sound like a shill but kudos to the devs for actually using the early-access model, delivering big patches on a timely manner and actually sticking to their plan of being in early access for roughly a year in total
>>714686949i've been working on a teleporter network to every area of conceivable note (one in every region except the offices the place has been cleaned of everything of conceivable value, to every anteverse, to every trader and resource converter) but it takes so fucking long to wait for the lodestones because they are tied to anteverse resets and i dont want to burn myself out.
oh but lodestone fragments i have 200 of. no problem in that department. wish we could combine them even if it was inefficient as all hell.
>game starts out as "half-life scientist survival simulator"
>escape manufacturing and get to the labs for the first time
The game became very unfun for me when you go to the Exor village and the enemies start teleporting inside your asshole and hitting you with an attack you have 0.1 of a second to react to.
>>714689084The one in the swamp?
>>714689084the teleportation and spear-skewer-rush thing is annoying as shit, they need to increase the CD on the teleportation
>>714683152they buffed up ammo drop rates and non-crafted gun durability plus allowing you to fix them relatively early on because they were fucking dogshit intially
>ah yes i would like an smg that breaks after emptying it out twice
>>714689084the spear exor are the one enemy where i think the game would be genuinely improved with its outright removal.
everything else has a strategy but those faggots actually teleport right behind you and grind you down in seconds EVEN WITH THE MOUNTAINEER ARMOR (most protection in the game)
deatomizer? haha fuck you it'll teleport as soon as the beam connects.
worst part is that they can spawn elsewhere in the facility after you visit the exor village.
the shortcut to the reactors in the cafeteria, one can spawn in there. unless you've got the whole spot protected with crafting benches it'll get ya eventually (or destroy something important)
>>714689084You're better off going stealth through that village. Kill a few of the high tier enemies for their junk, but don't engage most of them.
>>714689901since you'll have the jetpack by that point you can (and should) just float to the center, stealth attack the exor there, grab the fungus melter its protecting, and gtfo
>>714690054There's a big Exor NPC you can talk to up top, but I don't recall if there's any incentive to meet him. I do like the exor armor set though, so feel free to collect enough parts to make that.

It's alright, I like exploring the different labs and stuff but all the areas that aren't in the complex itself seem kind of shit and annoying though
If your game is inspired by half-life then surely you'd know to just axe xen like a normal person
>>714693137fish in the poop dimension. you get there using coffees to force shit yourself
>>714693290specifically on the laser toilet to clarify its a 1% chance
I tend to get burnt out on these games very quickly if I don't at least 2 friends to spread out the load of crafting stuff. I do find it very satisfying when you've finally got all the gear you wanted and are able to move around the map using your tools and knowledge.
My least favorite part is probably base building and needing a big workbench, and all the containers for your stuff, and them power for the stuff, and them Traps to protect your stuff, just to make a lot of the cooler gear. I like these survival games more when it's about progressing instead of building little camps. Though I know some people love house keeping.
>>714689084the spear alien is insane
>>714693593the chance is increased to 50% if you don't have the achievement
>>714693772theres one area on the map which is the ideal spot:
the security office in the offices map, lvl 2. once you unlock the shutters and the door (get there after hacking the keypad near where the manufacturing west entrance is), its perfect for a base. lots of room, two levels, shutters close to close it off, enemies only spawn outside of it (typically). also has vending machines and a coffee machine
also when you unlock teleporters you stop needing little camps.

only downside is that you arent directly close to anything valuable, have to take a tram or shortcut for everything (which is of course solved with teleporters but thats late game)

>>714696491Some say he is commenting on the facility's construction. I say he can teleport/vibrate through solid objects and thick layers of concrete is a nuisance to him.
>>714693552i've been looting, a bit.
>>714698839Got to upgrade your bench iirc
>>714686949my man nooooo, 1.0 invalidates progress and cuts resources to 1/10 to prevent this, you haven't read the dev post right? ah shiit
>>714699747i cleared out the office sector.
i have eight large crates dedicated to furniture.
i think im going to limit myself to a crate for a specific item and then scrap the rest.
I have over 100 hours in AF pre-Dark Energy and I'm stoked for Cold Fusion. Fuck luddites, fuck magick mercs and FUCK JANNIES!
>>714698960gm_flatgrass looking motherfucker
>>714675815 (OP)we're waiting for 1.0
>>714696491So when did you figure it out? For me it was in the dark world.
>>714702008Oh I knew immediately. No fucking way a scientist gets trapped just oh so conveniently like that. I was suspicious, but suspicions were confirmed when I read the computer entry. I fucking LOVE the one you get way later on, where the scientist is like "Yknow, maybe hes not such a bad guy. I feel kinda bad for hi-DO NOT LISTEN, SHOOT THIS FUCKING THING, NEVER RELEASE IT, LOCK IT AWAY FOREVER". That made me feel some flavor of dread, and I really enjoyed that.
>>714702584Shame you can't try and kill him. At least not yet anyway.
>>714675815 (OP)It was my GOTY last year and it wasnt even finished.
>>714693552i was partway through exploring the last area in the update before stopping
slush bombs are OP as fuck though
>>714702008There's literally a nearby hologram that talks about it. I knew before I opened the door. or shortly after? I cant remember exactly where it is.
Now, I wonder if that bell will be used for anything in the full release. I know the game is more Half-Life than SCP, but a few more anomalous random stuff wouldn't hurt. I hope that goo wall blocked off section has a whole new batch of weird shit to mess with.
I kinda wanna fuck Commander Fili. I wanna save her too, of course, but penguin sexoooooooooooo and all that.
>>714704952every patch I go to check if that wall can be removed now
>>714683358Thats why you play with like minded friends who want to progress together.
>>714683256Shame that the last perk you get in the ranged-weapons talents doesn't even do anything with sciency weapons. All it does is giving you access to more advanced military rifles via a piece of equpment that ruins your set bonus. And these weapons are still ass, with way too limited ammo. What gives? I get they want players to focus on self-crafted weapons, but then why not have a final perk that actually leans into that?
>first playthrough
>get dropped into Silent Hill
>learn that if I take three power cores the giants get to be free
>only take two, and then leave the way I came, never completing the area
I have never experienced the fog, and I never will. Bit sad that theres nothing really unique for that, other than no fog. The weird guy still leaves the zone, and the giants still show up eventually in Hydro, but still.
>>714705474yeah, the military weapons need to be WAAAAAY better to justify getting rid of your set bonus. At most theyre alright, but it needs to be much better than "alright" for me to ever use them in exchange for my arm slot.
>>714698093agreed, I actually dig it. Makes it feel more akin to HL
In the test chamberrrrrr.
>>714705494opening the portal let them free anyway anon, whether or not you take all three power cores is irrelevant
>>714698659I'm so glad this device exists. I just wish it had a bigger eyeball reserve tank. I don't like babysitting it.
>>714705494they significantly reduced the probability of weather events because there used to be no way to disperse the fog so you had a whole day essentially wasted when it (frequently) occurred
>>714698960I'd rather set up shop inside the arcade game. I would have, if I had bothered to make a teleporter.
I'm so tired of making Ixior soup. Its by far the most efficient soup in the game, it feeds five players with 3 ingredients, but i've been making it for the entire 44 hours my playtrough with friends has been taking. And also somehow i'm still not even close to being maxed out on the cooking stat, despite bieng the only person who cooks all meals.
>>714697554You really didn't have to pick the smallest room. That whole area outside it, between the glass door and the door that gets smashed leading to the plaza is completely safe. No enemies spawn in there at all. Lots of room for storage crates and shit. You only have to watch the glass double-doors and maybe put up a little chest-high barrier to instantly stop intruders from the plaza.
Fun game, moreso with just one bro.
Favorite base locations? Weโre set up in the labs by the aquariums on that upper floor with all the cabinets, but I want to check out the new homeworld once the patch drops
I'd enjoy it a lot more if "invasions" actually sieged your little safety hole instead of just teleporting in.
At the moment there's literally no point in barricades or anything like that because of it.
It'd add to the comfy factor as well knowing you built defenses that actually keep you safe.
>>714707729The room is comfy though, it feels like a little apartment of your own instead of camping out in a cafeteria.
>>714707012I changed the learning rate to like 3x, otherwise you seriously cannot progress skills in multiplayer without excessive game time
>>714708086You might be still early-game if you've only experienced portal storms. You will get The Order raiding your base, rappelling down from the ceiling and kicking down your barriers.
>>714708164But I like the cafeteria. I'm my own lunch-lady.
>>714708319The thing is they repel down from INSIDE your base and start fucking things up.
Maybe its an issue with detecting the boundary of my bases? But my main base with my friends was always behind the foundry guy, across that long bridge.
>>714708495Really? For me they came down inside the plaza and assaulted my base from there. In fact, every instance of a human raid, I had them attack from rooms adjacent to mine.
>Maybe its an issue with detecting the boundary of my bases?Could be. I also picked a really basic home base, so maybe I lucked out.
>>714708495Is there even a way to properly plan and prepare for invasions where you don't end up having to fight every single fucking time
>wiki says the reaper will teleport you into the shadow realm instead of killing you unless you damage it with a laser/xray first
>the thing actually just killed me every time
Lying sacks of shit.
>>714708708If you really hate raids, there might be a server setting to disable them. But there are ways to immunize yourself. One of the bench upgrades completely disables portal raids. It'll zap them closed and you'll be safe for the night. Which does cut down on what you have to stick around for.
>>714708708If you hold up inside the security office in the office sector and fix the door, the AI have no way of getting inside unless they can teleport. They will just stand outside and stare inside at you until you let them in.
>>714708729Same. Every time he just offed me. So either my luck is bad or that's a feature they didn't implement.
>>714708863I don't hate raids I hate how you can't just go full Home Alone on their asses
>>714708863the bench upgrade only disables portal raids not 'regular' raids where enemies spawn way off and move towards your base, without portals
>>714709432That's what I was driving at, yeah.
