WoW would've been better as a single player RPG with optional multiplayer anyways. In principle, it's not too dissimilar to diablo. Just a different camera angle and being able to bind multiple abilities instead of just 2.

Not the point. You can't make the scam argument with wow because the payment method was always that of a subscription model. It was never a game you could own, and was always up-front about that.
Would it still be possible to change? Yes.
Would that be nice? Yes.
But it's not the historical fork in the road the concept of ownership will live or die by.

you're only trying to look at the short term, mihoyo could just keep genshin running for 30 years using it as a platform for all their new games that they just now add into it as side content, then shut the whole thing down and everything is gone, the regulations not applying to them since genshin has been running before they were created, and in the meanwhile no one could compete with genshin because they're saddled with dealing extra regulations that genshin doesn't deal with, it'll just mean that genshin is king for 30 years unopposed then the entire thing disappears and by then there'll be some new unique sets of technology that the regulation is too obsolete to regulate

7/6/2025, 6:47:44 PM No.714686339
If there are actual gamers (not paid shills and not developers LARPing as consumers) who are unironically opposed to SKG because "waaah the publishers will have to spend more money to comply with a hypothetical regulation" then it's the most pathetic thing imaginable. I almost don't even believe you people exist, but if you do, holy fuck, stop being such unbelievably embarrassing cucks.
There is a natural and inherent conflict of interest between you as a consumer and the corporations making the products you buy, because they would benefit from higher prices which would cost you more whereas you would benefit from better products which would cost them more. You can be sure that the corporations are looking out for their interests exclusively, and that it's only through whatever agency you have left as a consumer that you don't get completely ripped off 100% of the time. Your ability to say "no thanks" and walk away, and the implicit threat that you will do so, is the only reason you get anything of value from any exchange of money for goods. If you buy something of value, then it's because that's the absolute minimum value which, in the seller's estimation, wouldn't cause the seller to lose customers. They're still maximizing their own profit and nothing else. They are not your friends. So it is perfectly okay to advocate for things that might not be optimal for some fucking video game publishing company. There is nothing wrong with this. You don't need to defend the billion-dollar corporation. They would step on you like a bug and piss on your flattened bug corpse if you didn't have a little bug wallet full of bug money.

So, just for the curious that will throw MMOs here as an argument against SKG.
Ragnarok Online (2002), Linage 2 (2003) and WoW (2004) all give you a perfectly functional software with your copy of the game.
Iยดm not too familiar with L2, but, both RO and WoW allow you to connect to any pirate server (that is in the same version than your client) editing a simple text file.
So, yeah. The three game count with people willing to keep playing it, and in some cases, RO and WoW at least, some of the private servers are in much better health than the official ones.

I'm not too familiar with Lineage 2 situation as well, but far as I'm aware at some point dev builds were leaked and people were making custom shards ever since. Pretty sure you have to have same files as server expects you to in order to connect (they store all the data about items, mobs, etc, they're just giant tables or something like that).
Maybe, maybe not, I've played it a couple of times here and there in the past. Either way, L2 private servers are alive and well even to this day.

That is literally not the point being put over the table you dense cunt.

I still have my disc of BF2142, can I play it online? No I fucking can't.
Until the community developed a way to do so themselves.
SKG is literally about that disc I have and you have that is USELESS because they discontinued the service that is required to keep playing it.
All they had to do was let people make private servers, have a server browser, P2P connections all of which have been in similar games like Cod4/MW2, Counterstrike for ages.
It's such a small thing to ask of them so that the products we are buying are not invalidated when they decide to either stop bothering, go bankrupt or move on to their next game.
So people can keep playing the game they bought if they so choose.
