The guy who made the game genuinely likes the CDI games. No, not the YTP cutscenes, the games. He made the "remaster" of them that aimed to tidy up a lot of the gameplay issues. The game is a tribute to them, not just the cutscenes but the gameplay, the graphical style, the music style, etc. They may not be good games but they are quite unique, and a faithful tribute to them makes for a neat little game, and I appreciate putting in the effort to celebrate an oddball pair of games not many have played and fewer still have enjoyed playing.

I don't mind if he's a slave to Nintendo or not, I just watch when it's something that interests me and I have some time to kill or want background entertainment, but I did think he was being silly about avoiding Deltarune for a while because it's not even as open-ended as Undertale and presumably wouldn't invite people saying 'You're playing it wrong' at every turn.

However, watching Joel play it made me change my mind about that because he was being so obnoxiously dictated to see every secret in the game and then his chat would get mad at him if he ever missed one. Like they told him to turn on the Santa doll for the special bit of dialogue before leaving Noelle's house and then got mad because he missed the normal dialogue. I like the game, but it has a lot of missable little things and that's part of its appeal. Being accompanied by a group of people trying to steer you into all those missable things instead of letting you discover it yourself and then getting mad if you ever miss anything would be annoying both for detracting from the sense of discovery in the game and in constantly feeling like you have these eyes boring into you making sure you play it the 'right' way. I appreciate they just don't want some cool scene or funny dialogue to be missed, but it does not seem like a fun way to experience the game.

Season 1 and 2 struck a good balance between actual colonists and meme colonists, 90% of the colonists in the other two seasons are shitty unfunny meme characters. Liking season 4, but there's pretty much no stakes on colonists dying like in previous seasons due to the game handing out resurrector mech serums to Vinny like they're candy.
