Replaying the RoC campaigns on hard, I'm starting to realize how rough the Undead campaign is designed.
>your new units go from ghouls/shades to meat wagons to necromancers to crypt fiends to banshees/gargoyles to frost worms to abominations
>early on most of your units are fragile as fuck, nothing you have besides Arthas has above 400 hp
>elf missions on hard are annoying with priests being able to dispel skeletons meaning you got to send several waves of skeletons before moving your army in to get rid of their mana
>missions 2-4 require you to build a base from scratch every single time and there's nothing to speed up the process, mission 3 barely has secrets to do while you wait for gold and lumber
>3-5 requires Arthas hold onto an Urn which removes an item slot and 4 has a key you have to ditch another item for
Meanwhile human throws a good combination of units at you with footmen, rifleman, priests, and mortar teams early, Orcs give grunts, headhunters, raiders, catapults, and kodo beasts by the third mission, and night elves have archers, huntresses, dryads, and glaive throwers by then. The latter half of the Undead missions at least end up being good, and they get better in TFT, but it feels like a slog for the first half.

Arthas canonically beats up a ton of powerful lore figures on his way to become the Lich King, even Illidan was technically stronger but Arthas had a greater desire to win that day and took advantage of him doing an incredibly stupid move, managing to outdo him despite being outnumbered. It's also kind of interesting how ambiguous his emotions are, including calling a Paladin brother and imploring they let them get what they came for. He just wants to get shit done and doesn't put up with anyone's shit and shows why he was picked as the Lich King's champion. Sort of the opposite of the the human campaign where people continuously hold him back. There's a good reason he is set up so we'll.

Ironically, Arthas in the Undead Campaign listens to others for advice, relying on Kel-Thuzad and Anub'Arak. He knows he's damned, so he's even fine listening to TichondriusThe main difference is that Death Knight Arthas has responsibilities, not expectations.

Then the second undead mission has all the paladins call Arthas a spoiled brat. It shows that they never took him seriously, until they died. Kel-Thuzad and Anub'Arak were better advisors just because they actually respected him as a leader, rather than treating him with kiddy gloves.

That's kind of his whole shtick. He's great at fighting, but has terrible judgement. The first thing he does after getting out is eat the skull of Gul'Dan and become a half-demon in order to fight the Burning Legion. Then he becomes a subordinate of the Burning Legion under Kil'Jaeden the next campaign, uses the Eye of Sargeras, and becomes a Demon Lord on Draenor. He only got to Icecrown because he allied with Kael'Thas and Vashj.

He's not even that great a warrior, considering he got captured by Maiev, whose only power is her immense autism, after he ate the skull.

Basically. Christie Golden wrote Anub'arak to be an involuntary slave and this close to betraying Arthas, so Wrath ran with it and everyone fucking hated it. He was also killed in a five man dungeon, which people hated, but they bring him back in a raid somehow where he's more powerful and he seems loyal to the Lich King. This is even before the writers forgot he was the King that betrayed the Nerubians in exchange for power.
