Do japs deserve such a good localization? Even if it slows the whole release?

When he's done with the game, Toby should get a team that can translate his work into other languages besides Japanese. Considering this is his magnum opus, it's not like he'd have much else to do with his time and money.

And then his team can translate his posts back into English, because this retarded "I'm going to talk like a quirky ESL Japanese game dev" shtick he does is getting really old.

The mods have been at war with Undertale/Deltarune threads for weeks now. Good news is that it seems to just be one seething janny, considering they're only fucked with on certain hours of the day.

God have mercy on these jannies once Deltarune launches its last chapter(s).

in this case I would just leave the word "determination" in english. Its not like the Japanese are unfamiliar with english

That one thread yesterday where we all managed to get it to bump limit before it autosaged was very fun, honestly. If this is the end, I'm glad we went out with a bang.

They should have replaced it with a reference to a political meme that instantly dates the game and once confronted upon it insisted that that's just what localization is supposed to be, and the only alternative would have been a direct machine translation. That's how it is supposed to work.

They translated it ケツイ, right? That seems fine. Way better than just transliterating it.

I will never understand why they went with 決意 instead of 決心 since the latter has heart in it. But then again its not my mother tongue and the finer points might be lost on me.

Writing terms in katakana instead of kanji is a very common way to indicate to the audience "this is something that means something special in the context of the game."

I near as I can tell, the latter is more like "resolve" as in making a committed choice to do something, whereas the former is the closest to "determination" as in having the willpower to carry that choice out.

I don't know why it added 'tugging', but ケツ is a slang term for butt, so I guess it got confused.

>>714697979
Yeah? That's why I said it seemed fine.

>>714697636
Yeah, something like what >>714698373 says. The way I read the dictionary, it's like this:
>決心
Making up one's mind.
>決意
Solidify one's will.

They can be used somewhat interchangeably, but the emphasis is different.

It's written as 決意
I wish the game wasn't kana only, I would totally play it in Japanese
