>was criticised by fans for years as a movie game with barely any gameplay compared to the rest of the series
>despite the fact that it actually has longer and better gameplay than MGS1/MGS2 and only slightly less than MGS3
Its time to end this meme. MGS4 objectively has more gameplay than nearly all its predecessors. It is an 18 hour game with 8 hours of cutscenes while MGS1 and MGS2 are 11 and 13 hour games with 4 and 5 hours worth of cutscenes respectively.
>muh gameplay/cutscene ratio
Irrelevant. Hardly anyone rewatches cutscenes in replays and all of them are skippable, we are talking pure gameplay here.
>muh act 4/5
Act 1, 2 and 3 together offer a solid 6-7 hours worth of core gameplay if you aren't a speedrunning faggot. The older games were much worse in regards to gameplay pacing. MGS1's stealth gameplay completely disappears after Sniper Wolf 1 (about 2-3 hours in) and it becomes a glorified boss rush. MGS2 likewise stops its core gameplay after the halfway point with sparse stealth in the second half. Meanwhile even after act 3, MGS4 has a relatively decent section in act 4, ending with a stealth based boss fight in Crying Wolf. You have been duped this whole time.
Gameplay ranking of the series:
MGSV>MGS3>=MGS4>>>>>MGS2>>>>>>>MGS1
