Why are there so few games set in the Conan universe? They don't even need Conan, the lore surrounding Hyboria is pretty vast and you can create an almost infinite number of games within that world. Well our world, since Hyboria is technically Earth before the plates shifted.

Conan obviously won't do big blockbuster numbers like Witcher or Elder Scrolls but certainly enough to be profitable. Conan Exiles was survival crafting slop and that managed to get enough money to be supported for years and 53k peak CCU is pretty good for a smaller title.

Now imagine if a good Conan game was in the works and not survival crafting slop, I imagine the numbers would be even better.

Old God of War is a good match mechanically.
As for the stetting and world, a series of separate but varied levels across a vaguely "Old" fantasy world that end with the protag getting the girl and the loot, only for the bridge between each level to be "our hero spent a few months/a year partying around before moving on to our next adventure".

Not at all. The longer stories of Conan were practically an adventure. One of them, he goes from dungeon crawling to fighting in a pitched battle between two kingdoms. In fact, the perfect open world RPG game would be a Mount and Blade-like. Think about it. It perfectly captures everything that is Conan. You start off solo. You loot ancient demonic ruins. Plunder shit. Get a small crew. Plunder some more shit. Fight as a mercenary in far off lands. Then become a captain of a mercenary band yourself. Fight armies. Become king. Thats literally Mount and Blade. But set in the Conan universe, thatd be the perfect game.
Fuck Mount and Blade Carribean. There needs to be Mount and Blade Hyboria.
