As someone with basic programming knowledge but not game programming, would this be a better idea for a dialogue system:

I'm an enthusiast of this brand of slop.
THE indie Undertale clone was Athenian Rhapsody. AR copies the undertale's battle system, which actually made it more fun as a game because Heartbound because Heartbound didn't even have a battle system mostly and just had you wandering around through Jason's repressed memories of blizzard dev studios.

Anyway to make these games good you have to be able to write and Maldavius Figtree has no talent for writing.

Most swattings are out of state or very distant numbers calling about a streamer. Once the person is known to be an 'opinionated individual' who accrues 'negative interest', they get put on a whitelist where they are viewed with more scrutiny.

Sure. You can even do it multiple axles as the game progresses:

Last Command takes undertale's combat but played as a game of snake and with no turn taking. Your character is represented by a fucking square. You can figure out something similar, there are plenty of shapes you could use if you're too lazy to spring for a simple low-res icon to represent the player.
