FE9/10 is my favorite of the character designs. A step up from GBA games, but not overly designed. Echoes's design I like too, I really should play that. I have the DLC downloaded on my 3DS, just never got into it cause of timing.

Yeah, for 3H that's part of Koei-Tecmo's expertise handling the side lore stuff regarding war and it's effects. IS's stuff with Fateswakengage has the world just suit the story at a minimum. The manga for Engage does things better IMO, tho (and makes the girls tits even bigger).

The Engage Xenologue was easily the absolutely worst version of this shit. Fighting through PTSD inflicted mirror echoes of known characters (even if they were incredibly shallow ones because >Engage) was pretty fucking neat. Except it turned out all of them were secretly monsters who looked human and all of them died off screen or something, like the writers were genuinely afraid of having ANYTHING interesting emotionally in the story.

What you didnt like your very brief battle dialogue between a select few characters? It's been awhile but i think awakening's future past handled that alternate timeline setting a bit better but it still falls under the same issue where they just dont do much with an interesting premise

i really have to wonder how much more tolerable fates' plot would be if the valla shit just didn't exist. there's some potentially decent plot threads (mostly in conquest) that i like the premise of:

>garon slowly becoming more of a warmongerer due to nohr's resource shortages and hoshido being unwilling to aid them
but they ultimately go nowhere interesting since the catalyst for them occurring is from some comically evil force that you don't have to feel apprehension about assailing in the golden route
