My biggest gripe is that outside of Midna there just arent a lot of characters that play much of a role in the story. They may show up for a split second, then they have nothing to do with the plot. Coming off OoT, MM, and WW, that aspect is a pretty huge step down. The combat is as good as it gets in terms of the classic gameplay though. I'm more than halfway through Skyward sword now and something about this game just feels like a massive step back from TP (not Midna aside). It feels like the world is more akin to Mario Odyssey design instead of a living fantasy world with lore to it. Just feels like I'm going from one playground area to the next. Beyond that, the lack of towns and small pool of npc's just make it feel really small in scope too.

Even beyond the motion controls, I get why this is a lot of peoples least favorite Zelda. Wild to think how many journalists had the gall to give it 10/10's. Also, Fi is not only the most bland companion but gets downright into uncanny valley at times. Especially her blank expression when she's singing.

The OST for this game is a genuine 10/10 though, I'll give them that.

It was the only mainline Zelda I hadn't beaten and I put it off forever after attempting it on the wii back in the day and loathing the motion controls. Sometimes you get into a patient mood to beat a game on the backlog that has been nagging you and this one was up next for when I got into that exact mood.

Still, it's not like its a terrible game, but it's definitely the worst of the mainline titles I've played. I can see why they took it to the drawing board after this one and BotW followed it. Might need to play some of the GBC/A titles after this just to cleanse the pallet.

It's very slow and genuinely clunky, it's stuck in a weird area between two different console generations where it's quite good at the older style but lacking compared to other games that came out just after, and the dungeon design is really hit or miss. Some sections are just a slog but when it hits it hits just right. Story wise I think it found a nice "serious" zelda plot/feel a lot better than BotW did but Nintendo freaked out afterwards and went hard in the other direction.
That being said, 40% ASS AND THIGHS and also one of the boss fights is literally bayblading a giant skeleton dog so it's not as bad as OoT jerkers make it out to be

For me personally it was just a lack of (and I hate the word) "meaningful" NPC's. Both OoT and MM introduced a ton of great characters that you got to know over the course of the game and whose stories would evolve as it went. TP pretty much just had Midna.
