Big FF7 fan, I had high hopes for this game, I went in trying to enjoy it very hard. It was extremely disappointing.
The open world is horrible, dog shit design, almost every side quest feel like a chore.
The mini games are forced and too long, I like side content, but mini games should not be forced in the main quest. It feels like doing homework to have the right to have fun. Everything in the game design is boring. The "simulation" battle system is lazy, materia and summons should be available on the map, it would at least give the open world a reason to exist.
The game could have been great if it was half as long.

I think combat and music help elevate the mundane shit in the world. Like the dog escort quest, elevated by dialog and two unique tracks you won't hear anywhere but the dog escort quest. I think it still "had" to be expanded into multiple games just because the decision to have a 3D world. Cloud originally came off as an emotionally stunted asshole, and it worked. His arc took him from edgy poser to psychological breakdown to genuine hero. Now he's stuck in permanent blushy anime boy mode, like he wandered in from some bargain-bin dating sim.

Tifa was once quiet, introspective, and emotionally layered. In the remake, she's been flattened into a generic waifu template.

Aerith was originally lighthearted and charming, with humor that masked real emotional depth. Now she's a full-blown manic pixie exposition bot, tossing out cryptic one-liners and acting like she's in a stage play.

I really hate the ubisoft towers, havigna to-do list is bullshit, I wish there was nothing on that so the exploration paid for itseld, keep the log of what you have encountered of course and maybe have chadley inform you when it seems that there is nothing else, but fuck off with the to-do lists, it really removes all the appeal of an open world.

I played Metal Slug XX today, but who I am or what I do doesn't matter. The fact that you're already defaulting to "hurrr let's analyze the poster instead of addressing the point" just proves you've got nothing meaningful to say about the boring gameplay loop of Shit Stranding.
The package-fetching is just glorified busywork. And hey, if that’s your comfort food, that's fine. It's no different from some Zoomer grinding dailies in a mobile gacha while a podcast plays in the background.
But don't insult everyone's intelligence by pretending this is some masterclass in game design. It's padded, derivative, and safe. The kind of gameplay a dev cooks up when they're out of ideas but still need to justify a budget.

They ruined Aerith death, arguably the most important scene of the entire game. Oftentimes, simpler is better. The reason Aerith's death in the OG was so impactful was because it was so cold and straight forward. Trying to make a death look so complicated takes away the emotional impact. I mean, there's still some impact, but they tried too hard to make it somehow "different" when it would've had far more emotional impact taking the scene just as it is and just letting the realism of modern technology and advancements do its work.

in my opinion, they have completely destroyed all the serious and epic image that good old Seph has had since 1997, now he’s more like a clown just like Freezer has become one in Dragon Ball Super. Bizarro’s graphics were amazing in Rebirth, but he’s far away from being a challenging/ serious “Final boss”, I respect if you do want something like that, but in my personal opinion, I just wouldn’t like it.

Multiverse stories suck. Why? Because it lessens the impact of what happens to characters in the main timeline. It doesn't matter if anyone dies when you can just have another version of that character join your party from another timeline, probably with all the memories passed on from the first version cause of the lifestream

It genuinely bothers me how badly Square's obsession with more and more realistic visuals has kinda fermented. Now all their games have uncanny doll protagonists accompanied by swaths of outsourced low-quality NPCs, and while in select scenes they can look as good if not better than the pre-rendered CGI, in general gameplay they look like fucking butts. I genuinely believe taking the Xenoblade Chronicles approaches to visuals, trying to recreate Nomura's art style even if it's the modern one, and implementing it with cel-shading would've gone miles better (and hid the shittiness of the NPCs more). But no, Advent Children tried to push cinematic CG, so fuck us.

VIIR and R2 are a shapeless amalgam of game design from AAA games that came out during the PS4 era, with a sputtering of concepts from popular movies like Endgame and Spiderverse.
If you've never played FFVII you will be missing context for everything that happens in these games.
If you have played FFVII you will be mad at having bought a thing that is titled "REMAKE" and finding out it's a sequel/spin off and not a remake at all.

the worst part of the game were the minigames at the gold saucer, and the fact that the game actually punishes you for attempting to kill/obtain a summon without collecting the crystal shit. Beating a summon at its highest difficulty should automatically give you all its skills, but it doesn't - just forced mechanics to get you to explore.

Rebirth's combat is terrible.
It may look neat and well put together in normal mode where you win battles using whichever attacks or builds you want without exploiting all the gameplay elements.
But switch to hard mode and it all falls apart, dodging/parrying is awkward, you can barely read the enemies' patterns because they're so small you can't see how they move. The worst offender is the sandworm that eats you, sometimes your character clearly dodges and is out of the way of the attack but you still get eaten for some reason, you can't tell where the hitbox is. There are also too many unfunny fights or challenges, like the auto-death mobs or the VR challenges.

It’s been like 9 months and I’m at temple of the ancients, trying to 100% my first run but I rage quit the squat mini game.
It’s a good game by itself, but it’s all advent children fan service, I don’t think it’s comparable to the original they are simply two completely different games. One single thing I’m grateful is they’ve dialed back the time jannies, the only reason this game is bearable and makes me forgive its shortcomings like shit locomotion mechanics.
