Which era of games do you fw the most?

Zillenial born in 2002 here. 2005 to 2011 was the golden era, I don't know if it was the end of the world prediction, Obama winning reelection or Mass Effect 3 ending, but something changed in 2012.

I was not allowed to buy any consoles as a kid no matter how much I had saved.
Best I could do is get hand downs from my then adult older brothers as there's a wide gap between their ages and mine.

Honestly now that I think about it, this is exactly the mindset my dad has.
He has this old ass laptop, keeps complaining that it's broken.
He knows refurbished, modern options are available.
He wants to get a new thing.
He doesn't do it. I don't know if he expects to get a laptop for free or something.

After years of dealing with broken ass phone he finally, put some money aside to buy a phone
I told him that if he wants to get a phone he should spend at least 300€ for something usable.
He got a piece of shit samsung phone that costs 150€ and can't handle opening the phone app on calls.

In comparison my older brothers both have either expensive phones or iphones(refurbished)

I was born in Yugoslavia in 1989 we didn't keep up with tech like the rest of the world so until 1997 I played the NES/SNES/Gamegear/Megadrive. Some rare kids PS1 but it looked incredibly obsolete compared to PCs with Voodoo 2s. So I never really got the PS1/N64 era as something spectacular because I moved from Doom2 to Quake 1 to Quake 2 to Half life and UT in the span of like 3 years. And given the controls and smoothness KB+M of Q2, UT and HL 1 all consoles look like gimped toys in comparison. Thats what the kids who didn't have the reflexes to play FPS played.

PS2 was okay. DS was the first handheld that I could say that I actually enjoyed.

GB and GBA felt like they were massive compromises, and battery costs were ridicilous or should I say my parents made it look ridicilous so I never got to play them properly outisde I was mostly stuck on AC adapters indoors and the fact that they didn't have backlight screens was also one reason.

DS I could actually play on the go in school, after school. At university in between classes.

Still I prefer the Sprites of the SNES the most. This is where I personally as a kid saw the most innovation.

Playing Mario on the NES and then a few years later getting to see World was amazing, then when Yoshis Island came out I was absolutely floored. That game felt like nothing I had ever seen before.

I remember I had it borrowed from some shop and I cried like a fucking bitch for a whole day when we had to give it back.

mid 90s-mid 2010s. wide band, yes, but a lot of my most beloved games are in that. it covers a lot of the best SNES, N64, PS*, xbox, and handheld titles. my genuine opinion on gaming is that while there are still great devs, and still great games, enshittification forged its death grip on gaming in 2020. normie scumfucks got into it en masse, live service exploded, and a bunch of other shit.

I can emulate whatever I want on practically any device I own. I have access to ginormous RPG's with bible length stories set in immersive worlds I would've never thought possible. I can play with friends anywhere in the world with pretty good latency and download gigabyte sized games in seconds. I can run anything on the highest specifications no problem except shitty Unreal Engine games. I can do anything and play anything.

I spend the majority of my time playing video games.
Most of my time has been spent playing current stuff. Not stuff from now but current at the time. 25+ years of being current. I never replay games, but I will play older stuff that is new to me. But it's not often that I play older games. There's a lot of stuff that I want to play and the stream of games is never ending it seems. Just this Steam Sale alone I found like 20 new games from sale threads that I'm interested in.

Even playing the 360 now it's a blast and the Arcade is very underrated. They should have had physical releases or collections on discs like they did with Minecraft. Achievements and gamerscore were great too. The 360 was the gen most people bought games for since Blockbuster wasn't worth it and gamestop was selling them for $10 after a couple years.

I was born in 98. My main childhood was composed of the late Gameboy sp to mid 2009 era DS/Wii. Early 2009 was when I got my 360, which that plus the Xbox one era to around 2017/2018. That's when I stopped really caring about gaming that much, besides playing a few indie games and maybe 2-3 big game releases a year.

Gen 4 and Gen 6. My family never bought me a PS1 or N64 so even though I grew up on the very tail end of Gen 4, to me it was longer than it actually was and Gen 5 didn't exist except when I went to friend's houses to play. Gen 6 to me is the apex of gaming, likely to never be topped.
