Meant for women who usually only play Solitaire or other windows free games

Yeah, once you understand the mechanics.
It takes a couple of tries to have a good run.
I'm too ADHD brained to play the game as intended, I plan a route and try to replicate it using the lore I've learned.
I like that game, it carried me through some sleepless nights.

of the games with this gameplay style, this is probably one of the worst. Part of that is that it was one of the earlier examples and other games learned a bit from its mistakes, but a bigger part of it is just that the devs aren't very good

no because the game expects you to constantly spin plates to survive while you figure out the fun stuff.
and then in some cases if you spin the plates too well you lose in a separate way.

it's fun but it takes too much time. I have played it seriously multiple time but I only learn so much in one 8 hour sitting then I stop for the day and forget everything until the next time and have to start over again...
I have 26 hours in the game and I never succeeded as I always have to start from scratch...

It's fun to start with and figuring out all the secrets and mechanics. But end game is miserable and tedious. Once you know what you are doing the game is basically pointless. Don't know why they even bothered with DLC characters.

You don't actually need more than the library's books to beat the game, influence juggling is annoying though, glad he learned at least that much for the next game.

It is extremely unique and interesting. It doesn't always hit the mark, but I loved it. If you lose the game in the endgame multiple times (or replay the game often), the flaws might become pretty obvious

At a certain point in a standard playthrough you reach the point where yeah you are basically grinding lore cards and trying to get higher tiers of raids. But the ascension rituals aren't too pricey and are generally easy to do without have maxed out lores. You are likely at the point where you can complete the game if you just started going for it.

Did everyone see that they're making their version of Disco Elysium? I'm quite hyped because I think they've got great material to work with.

For a game designer, Alexis Kennedy is great at designing everything but the gameplay itself. It's just different varieties of slow grinding loops and playing extra safe because every 5th option you take has something with random run-ending consequences that there's no way to foresee (he can go get FUCKED for the worms curse). However once you learn where the bad stuff is, you just grind and prepare then cruise through everything. Felt it with Sunless Sea, felt it with Cultist Simulator, didn't feel it with Book of Hours but that's because that game had no player tension whatsoever. Really a shame because the lore is interesting enough even Chinks ripped it off for their gacha games, but every time I load up one of his games, I suddenly remember the gameplay fucking sucks and the beginning of every single one is just grindgrindgrindgrind.

The raids are easy and effectively risk free once you've gathered most of the cultists, and they're where you get the vast majority of your progression and rewards. What were you struggling with on them?
Anonymous No.714772975 [Report]
>>714769310
The gameplay is the best part of both Cultist Simulator and Sunless Sea.
The whole thing that ascends his writing is that the gameplay directly ties into what the lore and story is. In CS you are an occultist unearthing obscure and dangerous knowledge, and you as a player accomplish this by accumulating obscure and dangerous knowledge of the weird and unintuitive ways the game works, and how you can subvert and manipulate it to your advantage. At first because you know nothing and the rules of the game seem random and frustrating, you can die or go insane at any moment. Eventually you learn to understand it and break the game over your knee, at that point it contains literally no threat whatsoever.
