Of course folding at inopportune times is pretty bad as well, but it's so easy to try to force a hand to completion even knowing that what you're discarding is likely to deal in because there's no real stakes and you just want the dopamine of winning a hand. Sometimes the other players just turn 8 riichi ippatsu tsumo 4 hands in a row without any input on your part and you just have to hold those games. Other times you may want to stubbornly try for a hand and ignore defense if you're already in last and quickly dealing in when you still want to fold in 4th sometimes to see if someone else gets the bitch card of dealing in to the early yakuhai hand with any possible wait that also has more dora tiles than you've seen in the last 4 games
