I think I know what's going on. I think part of what makes the whole grift work is that by its' very nature the people it attracts are sorry mfers seeking validation, so I'm guessing what's happening is that they don't actually have a viewer base as much as each video has a separate group of viewers corresponding to the people who already like the track they are reacting to. So very few people actually watch more than one or a couple of these and it never dawns on them that they do the same exact thing for every track they listen to and it's just all a show.

It's actually probably a similar thing to what I believe is happening to the growing epidemic of react personalities in the gaming sphere making a video about whatever is the new popular game as "this game changed my life" or something along those lines.

Some of the later characters like tarot card bitch, stance girl and the blue mage have somewhat interesting gameplay if you try to optimize them.
That is pointless however because counters from parrying do way more damage than most of your nuke skills and require zero prep or build up that it's probably faster to just skip your turn so the enemy attacks sooner so you can parry them more.

I finished it yesterday and it was alright, i enjoyed it. Really pretty candy for the eyes but nothing exceptional. JRPG combat is not great by it self even with all the different rules that they added to each character, which boils down to " Do some gimmick bullshit to buff yourself so you could do more damage". And parrying very quickly became tedious just because of sheer amount of it you have to do every fight

It's about as compelling as the "4 niggas in a row" format possibly can be. If you don't like the genre, fair, but this is exactly what JRPG fans have been asking for and why it's the modern exemplar of the genre.

I'll say this, at least Expedition 33 is aware that its gameplay is mostly for spectacle. CRPGs almost invariably play like shit because they keep trying to force systems that were designed for expressive roleplay and world simulation into hardcore gameplay. Everyone else figured out that simulation/expressiveness requires some amount of casual leeway or else hardcore gameplay requires heavy abstraction, CRPGs keep trying to force the square peg in the round hole.

I do think E33 is a really good game, but I think people have really rushed too much into calling it a GOTYAY.
