They literally had no reason to take the console deal, they self published, they're a small dev team of like 40–50 people, there is no sign of financial struggle, they could've easily sustained themselves.

Their original pitch was that it would be a hardcore, unflinching tactical shooter, here's the real kicker, for the PC audience, who wanted exactly that after SWAT.

But the REAL reason they're getting shit for this is because they are trying to straddle TWO DISTINCT markets without giving any justifiable reasons as to why. The PC and console market.

If they are making a new target SKU, they already have multiple different build branches, dev, test, prod. You don't suddenly test only on one platform because there is content parity (meaning everything censored) on all platforms, you still have to slog through all different builds per each platform.
Having different assets is controlled by a simple list when you cook the build, in unreal it can be something as simple as a data label or C make list. It litelary takes no work or time to have censored console builds vs. uncensored PC build.
And again, it's not even double QA time, console differences were always verified by a simple smoke test on each new build, it really doesn't take more than 20 minutes.

PS5 is 85% digital, Xbox is 91%, both of which you still have to download the bulk of the game or updates anyway, overall market is 95% digital due to PC which is close to 100% digital these days, unless you're releasing on Switch, physical is irrelevant, you're just bargain bin filler at what few retail outlets even bother stocking physical. The cost of physical is also significant, between the manufacturing, distribution and shelf stocking fee you can easily lose 80-90% of the unit price, it's just not worth it for a tiny studio. They also use the Unreal engine which makes it very easy to have different packages for different regions or platforms. It isn't a big deal at all. We all do it already. Our game (also an Unreal engine FPS) has five different builds on Steam or different regions requirements. Valve is very good with things like that.

As a dev I don't typically like to slag off other devs, but everything Void has put out in press releases about this situation is absurdity, lies, or absurd lies. I'm going to see if I can get a few other unreal developers together and put out something that's still polite and respectful, but just says lolno.
