Problem isn't the new ways to drive, it's the 24 racers and the bullshit that creates. Too many items flying around and items that make much more havoc than the older games also not to mention blue shells are far FAR more common. Nothing like the game punishing you for playing well

SonicDCer, who used to be part of the Dreamcast dumping scene, worked on the Decomp PC port among the Ship of Harkinian developers.
He was in charge of the Starfox 64 Decompilation project (not the port) and collaborated with harbourMasters to make a port for that game. It was a little rushed, but fine.

He continued working with them on the MK64 Decomp port, "SpaghettiKart", which was rushed out the door in an extremely buggy and unstable state.
SonicDCer decided to make his own Recomp based port on the side and, despite also working on GoldenEye 007, finished an incredibly stable, flawless port through N64Recomp,
which uses DarioSamo's incredibly well made RT64 graphics renderer that allows somewhat modern GPU architecture to recreate every single N64 graphics effect with high accuracy.

MK64Recomp has less input lag, better framepacing, a FAR better UI for settings and drag & drop mod support through thunderstore.io.
So far the only thing it's missing is an option to enable single player stage gimmicks in multipler, an omission that was also in the original game.

I love Mario Kart but I'm fucking terrible at it. 150cc kicks my ass and I've never even tried online for that reason. It's a ton of fun and I like almost every game in the series but I'm awful at games.
