Okami, is like if all the value a zelda game ever had was the bad parts exaggerated and LENGTHENED to the point that it takes 6 hours to get to the first dungeon.
Cross Code has a similar problem, but slightly better puzzles which go on for far too long to ever maintain their unique flavour and so end up feeling like youre doing the exact same things every time with more elaborate timings, or steps.
>>714828512Master Key and Pipistrello are the two that come to mind. I'm currently playing Afterplace which is sort of in that niche but doesn't have the item acquisition in exchange for solid writing and really interesting non-euclidean map design.
I've never found a good 3D one
>>714829467Lol no it's not fun unless you're into being the top sweaty player.
Killer mains will gaslight you about the state of the game while survivor mains will tell you to play by their imaginary rulebook and try to troll you.
Just don't get the game. It's not fun unless you like to be punished. So if you're a dark souls players, sure. Otherwise no.
>>714829439Zexion just came out and was really good
>>714829426it did I bought the game for the art/atmosphere but the gameplay was so bland and raw, literally zero upgrades or power ups or new skills in a metroidvania of all things just jump dodge attack in a genre I already not huge fan just made me put it off, for example I really enjoyed bloodstained not like loved but it was enjoyable and I did almost everything that the game had except for one secret ending
>>714829467no, the only time it might be fun is the first few hours before you know what you're doing but that only works if everyone else also doesn't know what they're doing
>>714829552the last puzzle of crosscode is criminal, like people should go to jail for that

>>714829562>I've never found a good 3D oneYeah same. That's the problem really lately. I thought I got over it, but I accidentally picked up a game recently on sale on a good deal that I thought could suffice and it was sucy a disappointment that it sent me down a spiral of wanting to recoup by finding one that fucking does it goddamn right for once.

Are there any games that takes you on a journey?
Obviously talking about narratively, so looking for RPGs.
Bonus point if they let you make your own characters, but I know that's unlikely given most of these games are JRPGs.
Been aching for a game that's about a dude leaving his starting village to go on a quest that evolves into a journey type vibe.
>>714829784muse dash is like 1$. you may as well get both
>>714830016Good rec, sadly I've already played that.
>>714829980Astlibra or Ys 8
>>714829975Dont know if theres any point in mentioning it without explaining the reason for disappointment seeing as its a kind of elaborate trend of "action adventure" games. But its Jedi Survivor. Will probably be making a thread on it eventually
>>714829784Both are worth having but if you had to pick one... hm. Its a tough one because Project Diva has better gameplay, but Muse Dash has better music and vibe
>>714829649I guess they didn't want to get too crazy with movement options and such to convey the feeling that you are playing someone with a heavy weapon, but I can understand why that felt unsatisfying for you.
Personally, I'm always a big fan of "perfect guard/block at the last second" mechanics so that's a big reason I liked it despite the stiff movement.
Incidentally, I should check out Bloodstained, heard generally positive things about it but I never actually checked it out.
>>714829980Icewind Dale hits every one of your points
>>714830021$1 gets you a paid demo. Most of the game is hid behind the $20 DLC.
>>714829253>zanki zeropretty sure every western release of that game is heavily censored
Is this worth playing? I've been looking for a solid space game to do some dude weed and zone out to.
>>714829813I feel like that entire sphere of design got eaten by Soulslikes. The closest I've found has been stuff like Darksiders or Kena: Bridge of Spirits, but same with a lot of things Nintendo does once you break down what it takes to make 6+ complex 3D dungeons on top of an interesting overworld and any semblance of plot, and you end up with an amount of content that's impossible for a small team to muster. Lord knows the Oceanhorn people tried and failed utterly to just copy it note for note.
>>714821790can't you refund it now you own it? or are these like ubisoft-origin steam codes and you can't?
>>714829980Morrowind might scratch that itch.
>>714830260Bloodstained is fine. Thanks to kickstarter it ended up being a note-for-note rehash of SotN with the soul system from later Castlevanias, and while it's certainly not a bad game it's very rote as a result. If you want a metroidvania with parrying I can't recommend Nine Sols highly enough, absolutely stellar boss design.
>>714829620>>714829687Ah, fuck that. I like Dark Souls but fuck the imaginary "rules" you have to play by.

>Space Marine 2
Extremely mid. Its good for dumb fun but I am genuinely shocked that this game got the praise it did. Story is barely 6 hours and then its just multi-player chasing cosmetics and perks for your chosen class. I have been playing it quite a bit but I have the presence of mind to realize it's less that the game is genuinely fun or engaging (note, haven't tried pvp yet, its probably more engaging vs real players, the new Siege mode is pretty good for a genuine challenge though) and more about chasing cosmetics I want. Currently trying to build an Iron Hands Assault Marine.
Also no Librarian class, or Grey Knights and Word Bearer cosmetics. Rip me in particular
Also the cosmetics frankly aren't that great. Its really hard to add highlights or details because lots of the cosmetic models only let you use two color vectors and lots of cosmetics don't even let you use more than one. I hear the workshop has picked up the slack but this is shit that should be built in if you are going to try to make it a major focus of the game. Primary/secondary color change schemes were in fucking Dawn of War 1, and that was just a throwaway feature that they had because it was cool and they wanted to evoke tabletop vibes but likely lacked the budget or technology to go as ham as they wanted to. Now we have a triple A $60 game with DLC packs out the ass (thankfully all cosmetic only) and we can't figure out fucking highlights? Its like a character creator from a 2004 MMO ffs
Overall its like the epitome of a 6/10 game. Overall fun but pricy for what you are getting. Couldn't honestly recommend it at anything above a $20 price point. Its hard carried by the branding alone.

>>714828083Planetarian, Higurashi, Muv Luv series, Subahibi, Kara no Shoujo (only the first one is on steam thanks mysterious Valve censor), Zero Escape games, House in Fata Morgana
Any recommendations for games with fun sledgehammers or hammer-like weapons? Red Faction excluded
>>714830962CrossCode's a little hard to describe because the setting of the game is a fictional MMO that takes place within the game, so you end up with NPCs in the game who are real people within the fiction and NPCs who are also NPCs in the fictional game. The end result is a lot of standard MMO quest bullshit at first but it opens up into some more interesting storylines and quests as it goes on. Combat is real time with a mix of melee and ranged attacks.
The puzzles are various flavors of element swapping while ricocheting a projectile around a room. This means you can fuck up your understanding of the puzzle, you can fuck up the execution, and/or fuck up the timing. It leads to some real nonsense, especially when there's endgame sequences that can have over a dozen steps with pretty tight timing.
>>714830384>once you break down what it takes to make 6+ complex 3D dungeons on top of an interesting overworld and any semblance of plothas nothing to do with complexity or plot. not a single 3D zelda game has complex level design, nor a plot with any relevance let alone gameplay interaction.
even the shittiest dark souls game (ds3) has level design about on par with the average zelda game. and besides, developers will sooner make the millionth open world zelda wannabe than a dungeom style zelda, and open world games are objectively harder to make both on a pure scale sense, and in a narrative coherence sense.
the real problem is that nobody actually cares that much about classic zelda itself. they care about how it "feels" or "seems" to them. its why you can have a garbage dungeon like snowpeak mansion or whatever, so heavily praised, because it has nothing to do with uniquely utilizing mechanics well, or clever gating. Or else the Sandship In Skyward Sword would be the most praised and exemplary dungeon in the entire series, and considered a momument of standard to be compared to.
Based on the Zelda likes ive played and have been playing, this tracks for me. Its about giving the impression or feeling of adventure, rather than designing amd structuring for the unique fundamental adventure principle of problem solving and overcoming, with more than brute force against unknowns.

>>714837521Doesn't the fighting game community just buy the most popular game day 1 and never look at anything else?
Unless people want to fight bots like some kind of animal.
Anyone played Oneshot? Might pick it up.
>>714820330 (OP)Currently in my cart:
>Feperd Games Collection (Spark the Electric Jester trilogy + XF Extreme Formula)>Little Nightmares 2 (haven't played 1, but it isn't on sale for some reason, can I play 2 going in blind?)>Furi>Atelier TiaThoughts? Anything I should drop/add?
>>714835963Just emulate Bravely Default

>>714838097>XF Extreme FormulaThat looks kinda good, might get it myself.
Give it to me straight, is The Witcher 3 actually good? the combat seems boring for how much it gets praised
>>714838508you don't play it for the combat
>>714838508Yes witcher 3 is good if you just focus on the story, writing and characters. Combat is boring, increasing difficulty doesnt do much for me since there really isnt much in the way of tactics aside from applying oils(buffs)
I will say however the Witcher games just feels much better to play through if you've read the books up to the lady of the lake(though you might also criticize cd project for messing with some characters)
Can't wait to not play all these games I bought.
>>714838508It is boring. Aside from the combat being decent at best, worst part in Witcher games in general is the ass progression system, with most level ups, gear and buffs being miniscule incremental stat increases rather than something that changes your playstyle, aside from maybe deciding which one of the starting abilities you end up spamming more than others.
>>714838508protip: overwhelmingly positive rating is product of normalcattle wanting to fit in with a safe opinion that rarely reflects the actual quality of the game
>>714821268Division is a fucking boring ass game that teases you into thinking it will eventually get more fun

>>714838508Yeah, it's that good.
Narrowing in on a final list, you don't think any of these will end up bundled right? I tend to only buy H and bundles.
Also nobody answered the last time I asked but is the steam version of Anomalous Coffee Machine the "deluxe" one on itch?
>>714820330 (OP)I got everything I wanted at a reasonable price. I'm good.
>>714839590Yeah, I had a bunch of tracks downloaded to my iPod. Fucking love .hack//Sign. Everyone else at school thought it was lame that it was lots of psychological conversations about the nature of the internet but it clicked with me immediately.
what to keep and what to remove (also taking recs for cheap indie games)
>>714840857>is the steam version of Anomalous Coffee Machine the "deluxe" one on itchDid some digging because I'm also interested the game, apparently the Steam version is considered the game's definitive version, and has all the content from the itch.io version except a handful of copyright-infringing ones. It's not censored in any way, though, those have just been removed for legal reasons.
>>714841367>handful of copyright-infringing onesMeant "copyright-infringing transformations". I saw it mentioned in the Steam forums that the Steam version is labeled Deluxe on the main menu too.
>>714821430It's kinda fun if you can stomach the dating-sim shit, personally I found it kind of endearing but I know it's not for everyone, also at some point it gets to be kind of a drag when you really just want to max out relationships
the deckbuilding part isn't as obnoxious as people made it seem since in general it's kinda hard to come up with a really shitty and useless deck for your heroes, at least on the base difficulty, plus there's plenty of non-deckbuilding combat elements that are pretty potent
>>714841778>dating sim shitWait you can romance people in the game? Picked the fuck up
>>714821924Yet another chance for me to shill Ravenfield. Its built on Unity so it kinda runs like shit, especially if you mod it to the gills because most modders don't bother to optimize their mods, but if what you want is battles big and small against bots, it'll scratch your itch.
Can someone please convince me not to pull the trigger on this? I can't stop thinking with my dick.

Thank you to whoever recommended https://store.steampowered.com/app/2721530/Afterplace/ . I absolutely adored it.
>>714842357you have a shitty list
>>714842547No, it's garbage
>>714841508>>714841367Thanks I guess I'll nab it on steam, wish the itch version came with a key
>>714831254>Ratchet and clankIts closer to infamous and sly cooper mix. My gripe with it is that the final boss is where the design should have started, rather than being the only interesting platforming set piece at the end of a campaign that is way too long for what it is.
>>714842547The combat is a unique mix of melee combos and ranged attacks, with a score meter that both ties into your drop rate and has increasingly bombastic visual effects. The puzzles are clever and iterate in meaningful ways throughout their dungeons, so you feel like you're mastering a mechanic rather than doing the same simple thing a dozen times. The characters are memorable and charming with complex personalities and their own relationships with each other.
I could summon small gripes with any one part of the game if pressed, but it's one of a very small number of games that's 40+ hours long and does every aspect of its design justice across that entire length.
>>714838097Little Nightmares 2 is a prequel but will spoil 1 for you as a result.
Do you guys think Rimworld will get a better sale when the DLC drops in a few days?
>>714842541Do you acquire items like old 2d zeldas or new skills like metroid?
Gonna pull the trigger on megaton musashi and bravely default 2. Open to any recs for hack and slash hames or action RPGs. Also open to recs for schizo kino, been really enjoying critters for sale.
>>714843328Not really. Solo dev means smaller scope, so it's got some dungeons and bosses but is mostly about exploring a non-euclidean map and talking to various characters to navigate their sidequests. 6-8 hours, some really neat ideas, and a fun setting.
If you're after more of a classic 2D Zelda feel with dungeons themed around items, I've really enjoyed Master Key and Pipistrello lately.
nothing excites me no matter the price
>>714843551>Also open to recs for schizo kino,I was going to recommend EYE but it's not on sale
how does granblue compare to clair obscur, DQ11 and FFVII remake?
>>714842357The Chrono Arc DLC is just cheat codes and lewd .pngs you could mod in yourself. The actual content is all in the base game.
>>714845312played EYE over ten years ago. i should do it again, but i already have.
>>714843714Ah, i see. I'm looking for one classic 2d zelda. Will check those, thanks, anon!

>>714845839>safe schizo: the list
>>714845354Clair obscure>DQ11>Rebirth/Granblue>Remake. If I didn't have a lot of nostalgia for FF7 maybe granblue would jump ahead hard to say. They are all pretty good games, but Clair Obscur is the first game in years where I put off sleeping because I wanted to keep going. I love Rebirths Characters/music, cardgame, combat. They fucked up the pacing though and the world isn't as believable with all the censorship especially in part 1. Not only did they censor the honeybee inn to not make fun of gays, but then they censored the English translation to talk about how gender is fluid which is not what the Jap version is saying, and the forced diversity of random Sub-Saharan Africans everywhere. Clair Obscure feels like a modern French ff7/8/9, like how they used to be, it really is that good. The only problems with Clair Obscur is like the inventory layout and management. I'm near the end of the game and I think I have like 200 pictos, the menus are clunky to navigate and it makes it tedious if you want to try new builds.
Mecha/Waifu bros, Dolls' Nest. Y/N?
>>714846139>Dolls' NestWait next year.
Is Sonic fun? I actually really really enjoyed watching the shadow movie with my niece and daughter, but I have been a forever Nintendo kid so my only experience with the games were the GBA ones that ranged from adventure to Sonic Battle.
