They destroyed the proactive and methodical combat by letting you animation cancel and change direction mid swing turning it into mobile shit.
Also the performance and graphics are ass. Oh and the UI and systems make no sense and are all undeveloped. It's kind of a shitty game.

It's tri but actually finished. Much better monster roster, cut weapons are back in and it has g rank. Only downside is it looks very slightly worse than tri and has a less soulful online hub. This game is my favorite in the series.

I wish they would do a performance patch for this game. There should be no load times on the Switch 2 and uncapped frame rate. Capcom never would bother though. They hate Monster Hunter's past.

Adding to this, 3U has a free, invisible 50 defense for the western releases on top of nerfed monsters compared to Tri, it really messes up the early game. There's a patch to fix the defense but you can't import better monsters sadly

It's still using the 3DS version as a base, it has Tri's textures but it's still missing the lighting mechanics that Tri had, arguably it looks better outside of that since it has dynamic shadows for monsters and Tri only had drop shadows

Continuing with Freedom Unite. Never realized I was almost 100 hours in and I'm still not done with Low Rank Village or Low Rank Gathering Hall. I've been too busy farming weapons and supplies. The fact some weapons peak early in LR and require HR parts after one or two upgrades still annoys me somewhat, but now I'm trying to hurry up and move onto HR since I'm pretty close in both village and hall.

I rebought the game on Vita a long time ago, so that's what I'm playing it on. No idea if it can ad hoc and I don't care to find out, so yeah I'm doing it all solo.

Not when they die almost as fast as village monsters. I have no idea what they were thinking with the weapon and monster distribution in this game, but you get access to gear that'll carry you to high rank fairly quickly if you don't mind grinding the matierals. The big reason I haven't reached High Rank yet is my weakness of grinding for weapons I think I'll like.

Some old games have aged like shit and people who take pride in enduring the aged clunk are just losers with low standards

GU sucks even as a "classic" Monster Hunter game. You should play it emulate FU, 3U and 4U if you want to have some real fun, just know that FU doesn't allow you to reuse decorations and 3U is really dialogue box heavy (but nowhere near as dialogue box heavy as GU).

I blame Yuya Tokuda and his shit-tier team. The guy is obsessed with making the “next generation of Monster Hunter” while still clinging to last-gen engines. His games consistently run and play like absolute garbage. He and his team clearly lack the experience and understanding of what actually makes MH feel good to play.
