It's a sliding scale.
If a guy walks like a faggot and talks like a faggot, saying he's a faggot is fair game.
If a character is not really exhibiting any preference but then is randomly revealed to be homo, like Tracer, it's a bit forced but acceptable-ish. Adds variety, lesbian porn of her has skyrocketed since the reveal. Don't overdo it.
If a character acts like a straight dude, looks like a straight dude and his fanbase memes him into being the team dad, and then you say "actually he's gay, and that other guy you like is gay too, they were gay together but broke up", you deserve to get lynched.

in this case of this character specifically he was a well established character with no prior indication of homosexuality and it came out of the blue amidst a culture of fagwashing and overrepresenting gays in everything with no good reason.

more generally, 1.5% of men in the US (not an american myself, but for example lets use the US since its a hotbed of degeneracy and has way more gays willing to out themselves) identify as gay. if a work of fiction has 100 men it stands to reason that one of them might be gay, on average and assuming that the characters in the work of fiction are entirely average people and not engaged in activities or professions where gays are far less likely to be found. soldiers, criminals, martial artists, killers, jet pilots, secret agents, mercenaries. these are the protagonists of videogames. its not like we're all playing hairdresser simulator. with that in mind, if there is a gay character in a videogame there is an infinitesimally low chance that they aren't "forced"
