I think there's room for improvement, yet even if it's just polishing transitions between animations or UI the game's good enough that I'd buy a new story without any mechanical changes.
Obvious things to add would be more/different hat abilities. I vote to replace the ice slam with something more useful, it's silly having a slot taken up by what's basically "You are now allowed to use these springs" (and a very obscure minor mechanic that let somebody make a 'can you complete the game without jumping' video)
