Both look best for their medium. I don't really like the adventure style sprites in the advance games, and I hate 'classic sonic' whenever he shows up in new games. Both were handcrafted for their respective games, and using them elsewhere always looks off.

For the most part they're just reusing assets. The better question is why they don't reuse/mix in some assets from the spinoff racing games instead of relying on the same Generations environments over and over again. Frontiers could have used some of the environment assets made for Team Sonic Racing in its cyberspace stages, for example.

The backgrounds that were included on the pc cd of sonic and knuckles collection will always be my favorite aesthetic. Looking at evokes the feeling that everything was right in the world for at least a moment.

Classic Amy is cute but I really hate how messy her color scheme is. Classic characters all have very simple color schemes that stay within 3-4 colors max. Hell even Shadow follows this too. But Classic Amy has pink, green, orange, blue, white, red. Total mess. For me, this design she has for a Mario 64 mod is much better and absolute peak.
